(115,857 posts)They have been lamely trying to attract minority voters (good luck with that!) while at the same time keeping the troglodytes happy. If they forcefully denounce racism and bigotry they'll lose the racists and bigots who vote for them, while continuing to lose the minority vote. So they didn't dare say much about the Confederate flag until Haley conceded it should come down; then they feebly agreed that, well, if the folks in SC are OK with taking it down I guess we can go along with that.

SCGOP didn't do this turnabout without Preibus making a deal with Nikki Haley to add her name to VP shortlist. I knew Preibus was behind the orchestration before I saw his evil face at the press conference.
This is a NATIONAL move by the GOP to protect the 2016 candidates. These people are not doing this because it is the 'right' thing to do.
It was the 'right' thing to do for many years. It is a prophylactic to them now.
