While GOP candidates stammer, Clinton directly confronts race

Washington Post

The massacre last week at a church in Charleston, S.C., opened a leadership opportunity for the nearly two dozen politicians running to be the next president.

But few stepped forward to seize it.

...snip...

Some also lacked sensitivity. Sen. Ted Cruz joked Friday — less than two days after the slayings — that in his home state of Texas, gun control means “hitting what you aim at.” The next day, he campaigned at a shooting range.

Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, by contrast, has forcefully initiated a conversation about race and bigotry in recent days. At this moment of national trauma, the Republican candidates seemed as though they didn’t know what to say.

They have been lamely trying to attract minority voters (good luck with that!) while at the same time keeping the troglodytes happy. If they forcefully denounce racism and bigotry they'll lose the racists and bigots who vote for them, while continuing to lose the minority vote. So they didn't dare say much about the Confederate flag until Haley conceded it should come down; then they feebly agreed that, well, if the folks in SC are OK with taking it down I guess we can go along with that.

and it took them a few days to figure out how to handle it so Jeb 2016 would not have to endure the constant barrage of flag/racism questions going into the debates.

SCGOP didn't do this turnabout without Preibus making a deal with Nikki Haley to add her name to VP shortlist. I knew Preibus was behind the orchestration before I saw his evil face at the press conference.

This is a NATIONAL move by the GOP to protect the 2016 candidates. These people are not doing this because it is the 'right' thing to do.

It was the 'right' thing to do for many years. It is a prophylactic to them now.
