P. Diddy was reportedly arrested on UCLAs campus Monday for getting into a fight with a Bruins assistant coach early Monday afternoon. Yes, you read that correctly.
And yes, that P. Diddy. (Hell always be Puff Daddy to me)
Diddys son, Justin Combs, is a defensive back for the Bruins.
According to TMZ, one of UCLAs assistant coaches was screaming at Justin on the field, and Diddy later confronted the coach and grabbed him. As a result, Diddy, 45, was arrested for assault and remains in custody at campus jail.
I'd imagine Diddy did this at some point during the altercation:

(3,425 posts)In the interests of accuracy, I do not enjoy hip hop music and I do not listen to it. However, I think that the lyrics in some songs are amazing. I also do not enjoy jazz and never listen to it. When awards are given to artists or bands that I do not like, I do not judge the talent of the artist, I just know that I do not enjoy listening. Does that make me a racist.

(3,425 posts)Apparently there was a DU poster that did not think the guy was talented. That was his opinion (yes, he is entitled to his opinion) and he expressed it.

(31,849 posts)I don't believe that individual taste should not be mistaken for a measure of talent. For example, I have listened to/seen a lot of opera ... No matter how hard I try, I still can't get into it; yet, there is no doubt that the lead performers are talented ... they just don't meet my ear.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Not as much needs to go into that, for P Diddy or anyone for that matter.
BTW, my cats don't like opera...classical music they love, but something about the arias really irritates them...they also run when South Park is on...must be the vocal range...go figure.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)than take Country and Western or (most) Punk or Rockabilly ... I have no doubt, anyone that wins awards in those genres have talent, despite my dislike for their music.

Talent shouldn't be assessed by awards or money.

(32,037 posts)Being "multi-award winning" and "multi-millionaire" doesn't mean "multi-talented".
Diddy made his fortune dumbing down hip-hop (and posthumously exploiting Biggie Smalls) for the mindless masses.

Several media outlets later identified Sal Alosi, the Bruins strength and conditioning coach, as the individual whom Combs allegedly assaulted. A TMZ report said Combs swung the kettlebell at Alosi and narrowly missed. Combs was reportedly mad after the coach had screamed at the younger Combs during the workout. BruinReportOnline reported that a UCLA intern was nearly struck with the kettlebell.

(22,340 posts)Because his son is on the football team, he is on scholarship. That is just the way it works--on the roster means you take a scholarship spot. Now, obviously, the mini-Diddy doesn't need the scholarship, so I like that the money is going back to the program. Personally, I would have taken the money and set up a full-ride for a student in need, but that's just me.
But, yeah, I think Diddy thinks he gets more out of that donation than he really does.

bigwillq
(72,790 posts)Some coaches yell, some don't. Some professors yell, some don't. Everyone has a different teaching method. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. An effective teacher or coach knows what to do to motivate a student, and sometimes they have to yell. Or at least in my experience they did.

If Combs did assault the coach with that kettlebell, he needs to do some time in the county lockup, and then some house arrest. That thing could do significant damage.

(30,481 posts)With Combs longevity and career as a whole, he clearly has talent. Along with a serious side of smarts. I also love that he is out there fighting for his family. Not the best way to do it but the image is good with me. Guy might be an asshole. I don't know and nothing in this story leads me to make such a broad assumption. You seem to pay a lot more attention to him than I do.

(30,481 posts)These things happen all the time in locker rooms across the country. Look at the dollar signs involved. It generates a lot of emotions. Add family to that an it can be tough. Parents routinely got in heated yelling matches with our high school football coach. Sometimes it turned to shoves. It isn't as unusual as some people think. Normally when a parent gets to that level of frustration, its because they see talent in their son. The schools often do as well. Said parents are removed from sporting practices, the school benefits from the young mans talent, and life goes on.

"Alosi used to be the strength coach for the New York Jets, until he was caught tripping an opposing player who was running down the field to cover a punt."
