I hope she runs for other public office so she can be harassed about what took her so long, or why she permitted this in the first place. Not impressed.

"We shall overcome"

Sad that it took the deaths of some very fine people to make others sit up and take notice, but that is the way of the world. Violence is all some people respond to.

One more symbol of the "Old South" goes down. Finally. It has been a real embarrassment for most of us to see that damn symbol flying high. And it does symbolize hate and oppression. Everyone knows it and finally the politicos are having to eat it.

Charleston is a beautiful city that I visited once. Have also toured St. Mary's across the ferry from wild, awesome Cumberland Island, GA, one of the Atlantic coastal barrier islands where JFK Jr. and Caroline Bessette were married in a historic black church c. 1996.

Also saw Darian, GA the small town that the black Civil War regiment, the 54th Massachusetts was ordered to burn and sack against the protests of the commander, Col. Robert Gould Shaw. After the war Shaw's New England family provided assistance for the town. The action is portrayed in the film "Glory".
