want to get rid of handguns???

repeal the 2nd amendment.

honestly unless that happens there's really no chance of getting rid of guns.
the simple fact is the 2nd lets people have guns. unless its repealed gun bans or any heavy gun restrictions rally have no chance

thats just simple reality

Maybe you should check the definition of "arms" in 1789. former9thward Jun 2015 #10
I agree. The second does need to be repealed or heavily revised. Erich Bloodaxe BSN Jun 2015 #2

To be much more specific about what is and is not allowed, and for what purposes.

to think otherwise shows a worldview at best naive and at worse delusional. The gun control extremists will NEVER get the votes in Congress or among the 50 states.

It's why I rarely participate in these arguments here anymore, it's boring, the same arguments every time and no one ever changes their minds.

It would then just go back to the states under the 10th. Many states already have weapons ownership in the state constitutions.

It'll take 3/4s of the States passing...won't even get half. And any pol supporting repeal will be committing political suicide.

You might want to pick up a book on the enlightenment, then a modern textbook on constitutional law.

If you magically waved your hands and the bill of rights suddenly was minus an amendment, the right to keep and bear arms would go from being explicitly protected to being implicitly protected by the ninth and tenth amendments.

There are plenty of rights that we have that aren't explicitly protected. e.g. The right to travel- appears nowhere in the constitution or bill of rights.

The bill of rights is a 'the government shall not' document, not a 'the people can' document. It's right there in the preamble.
