To help this frail and vulnerable population, Russell started Friends for Life. The nonprofit enlists advocates and friends for seniors in Texas who need a helping hand.

Since 1986, Russell and her group have helped 22,000 people navigate a variety of difficulties.

6. Love this! I cleaned houses and one elderly client always fed me and chatted with me the whole time.

I LOVED hearing how things were back in the day and she loved reminiscing. This was in college and I wished I could have spent more time volunteering in this way.
