So...apparently DISH added Weather Nation

Weather Nation..

I occupies the number channel (215) that used to be AlJazeers (it's now in 216)

It's like the weather channel started out being.. No celeb weather reporters..no glitzy repartee.... JUST WEATHER

No more watching Stephanie whatshername squeezed into skintight red dresses (when she used to wear khaki cargo pants & tee shirts .....which she obviously felt comfortable in)
No more Jim Cantore parachuting into every bad situation he can find..

and the best part..

weather every time you tune in.. no more hours on end of.....Tornadoes from the past....Hurricanes from the past and of course..no more Fat Guys in the Woods...

because I've still got it, plus Weather Channel Interactive. WCI gives you local weather, while still running an inset of their main channel. I just mute it and read what's give. I hope there's something like that with Weather Nation. If not, I'll just stick with Weather Underground.

Besides, if it's raining really hard, I won't be able to pick anything up on Dish anyway

Last night a crawler appeared on the local NBC station that a severe storm was headed our way. I switched to the weather channel but all I got was Fat Guys In the Woods.

then you can just mute whatever oddball non-weather show appears in the inset panel (upper right-hand corner), and see your local weather only

because with satellite as soon as it clouds up real good the signal heads south and I'm left with options that I don't even want to try on my tv machine

I seem to remember that bain capital owns WU though and if thats still the case I'll continue holding my nose when I check out the weather

We rarely lose power but I've got my internet set up on wireless so I don't fear a power surge hitting my computer so I can leave it on. I designed and made myself a hold in circuit using a relay that if I lose power for a blip the relay drops out and won't pick back up until I hit the on button. Protects my computer form inrush surges.
It works on the same principle as the shut down built in the computer except it cuts the power coming to the computer. I have it breaking both the power line and the earth line so no killiewatts can get though.

Which was bought in 2012 by a consortium that includes NBCUniversal and investment firms The Blackstone Group and Bain Capital.

No wonder The Weather Channel has gone down hill.

I thought WU was like the alternative to what the WC had become.
Thanks for the enlightenment.

And yeah - the WC has been slipping for years but it took a big noticeable dump right after Bain took over. Can't remember the last time I turned the WC on - Last year maybe?

but they did improve the Wundermap considerably. I can discover a lot of data with it, versus knowing where all of the NOAA and NWS sites are that do the same thing.

I do wish all of the various TV stations would share their radar data with everyone else. It would go a long way in preventing gaps in the data, and possibly create even more accurate displays and data-gathering.

with so many different companies owning so many other smaller companies, it's difficult to keep it all straight unless you're completely anal and keep full records of all that. I'm not, and honestly don't care any more. If it's a good product (like WU) then that's all that matters to me.

If I boycotted every person and company as DU dictated, I'd be living naked on some unspoiled prairie. Or not, because then I'd be breaking the rule to not spoil the unspoiled prairie

I'm done with the Weather Channel. It's been ruined by celebrity porn and endless commercials. I like Jim Cantore...but, he's now being used to jazz up the the ratingg and I get the feeling he'd rather be somewhere else than in the studio cracking silly non-weather related jokes with the rest of them.
