DETROIT - A man is dead and nine other people were hurt in a shooting at a block party on Detroit's west side.
About 400 people were at the party enjoying some barbecue and a basketball game Saturday night at Dexter Avenue and Webb Street.
Detroit police don't know if the incident was a drive-by shooting or if someone approached the party, but seven men and three women were shot. Police believe most of them had nothing to do with the gunfight.
The homicide victim, a man who would have turned 21 this year, was shot multiple times. One other person was listed in critical condition.
Witnesses said they grabbed their children and ran for their lives. A stroller and a child's overturned chair were left behind after the deadly shooting. A deflated bounce house sat in one corner as Detroit police combed through the basketball court.

(5,519 posts)and 7 people were shot by some gunfuck, including children.
Now I know the NRA would like to hear that people at the block parties shot back,
but in that alternative reality, who would the good guys be? The papers would report it
as some kind of war that broke out. Is that what's happening?
Why does Murka believe that all problems must be solved with gunfire...?
What is wrong with us?

(2,841 posts)If you check ClickonDetroit right now, there's three separate reports of gun violence in the city of Detroit. Keep in mind a lot of the violence (whether with guns or without) is barely touched upon within the city by the Detroit media. :/

(2,841 posts)I think not.
Guns need more regulation and they need to be harder to get; likewise there needs to be screening of applicants who want to receive a gun permit. I personally know several good, hard-working people who own guns (not assault rifles or uzis, etc) for self-defense and they're not insane. But let's be real, for every good person with a gun, there's probably five maniacs/gang-bangers with a Ak-47 waiting for the next turf war to bring out their "piece".

Horrible for those innocent people caught up in it.

(2,841 posts)Several local stations reported on the community affected by this shooting and how they're trying to come up with solutions to this madness:

I'm glad that this is getting some attention, at least here in Metro-Detroit. Our communities need to be heard!
