To my dad for Fathers day

He isn't one to toot his own horn, so I'll do it for him.
My old man was, and is, the strongest and toughest man I've ever known or ever will know. He always preached non violence to us but said sometimes you have to pop a bully in the nose. He always, and I mean always, told us to be honest.
He was, and is, a liberal Democrat who sees wrongs and wants to right them. He outlived his two brothers and one of his best friends in the last year alone and yet still maintains a fighting spirit even though he can no longer walk. Sure he drank some beer with his buddies, but he worked hard and never ever forgot his family was the number one priority in his life.
When my sister went away to college, she had two words for him, "Thank you".
Happy Father's day to the greatest man I've ever known.

I wish I could say the same of mine - but I can't.

So instead I'll say "Well done!" to your dad, and all the dads like him - and to all the sons and daughters who appreciate their fathers' example, and do their best to follow it.

He's no longer with us, but let me quote him, "He who tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooteth."
