Where's the compassion? I know lots of other stuff is going on, but this MATTERS!

World Refugee Day gets 64 views and ZERO replies?

World Refugee Day
20 June 2015

World Refugee Day is held every year on June 20. According to the UNHCR, there are more than 50 million refugees around the world, half of whom are women and children.

I'm disappointed at the apparent indifference and insularity.

The rest of the displaced world doesn't even know about the internicine primary battles on DU. They're trying to stay alive long enough to make it to safety.

They should be so lucky as to have the leisure of debating candiates' respective merits.

There are more millions of displaced persons now than at any time since WWII.

But it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would evoke a big wave of responses. Now if you posted something proposing a solution, such as the EU proposal to accept a certain number of refugees, then you might get some opinions. Just remember, the refugee problem is driven mostly by various wars and conflicts around the world, so people feel there's not much they can do, other than donate to their charities.

And, donating to a humanitarian agency on this day would be just fine!

When an OP gets only 60 some views, it's likely NOT to get any responses.

You got 60 people to take a look at it. I know that can't compete with all the back-and-forth flaming between Bernie and Hillary supporters, but, in the words of our greatest living actor, Sylvester Stallone, "Ya gotta do what ya gotta do."

I like most people get emails for petitions and causes and you cannot (at least I can't) have the same amount of feelings for everything. I'm not a mean nasty unfeeling person. Just human. To paraphrase that old saying: compassion begins at home.

Thank You.
I did not realize that today is World Refugee Day.

I know there are Millions of refugees from the Wars we started in the Middle East.
I used to hear reports from our Media about the Millions of Sunnis who were forced out of Iraq,
but I haven't heard about the plight of the refugees not since the US Military "made an example" of Fallujah with Napalm & White Phosphorus.

The word seems to have come down from HQ to stop talking about it.

It's quite a big deal here in Europe--lots of demos and events. But then, these desperate souls are literally at the EU's fortress gates.
