What I've learned so far so take it as that
So far being verified via whois and domain registration searches. Also law enforcement has confirmed that the photos in the zip file being hosted are originals via EXIF data....strange one at that...he purchased the domain from Queensland, AU and hosted in Russia...pretty amazing for a kid who didn't have any form of income....and didn't graduate HS.
The one large zip file (who does that?) linked on his website is full of images of the kid. The EXIF data example pulled from one photos gives little more than the camera used KODAK EASYSHARE Camera, C1530, No GPS.
Rtf88.txt - the "88" is some kind of neo-nazi Magic number "H" is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so "88" is used as "HH" which means "Heil Hitler" in certain groups.
The website hosting - odd. Maybe he had to go offshore to get someone to host his offensive material? Did he have it up previously and have to move it? Doubtful. It seems to be related to an admission of his act after the fact. I wonder when it was published?
Now I wonder if they have his computer?

(3,276 posts)after he was taken into custody, that the police had taken his computer. Don't have a link for that, though.

(36,988 posts)I'm hoping the Justice department will track down his free republic handle and storm front handle.

(111,267 posts)in the photographs I've seen, trying to look brooding and artistic and terribly misunderstood under that mop of hair.
You bet they've got his computer unless he managed to bury it out in the woods before he slaughtered people.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)it's presumably harder, but you go to the service provider, their credit cards, sites they are known to frequent (check user names, many people use the same one at several sites), etc... that is how they got this kid in Minnesota who sent out viruses.

(154,021 posts)but I was told here by a poster that he could not have a computer.
I will have to do some of this myself. As to the computer, you betcha it is now part of evidence.

We have some of the coolest members

(51,308 posts)I guess the media will have them out soon enough.
H2O Man
(73,558 posts)CNN and MSNBC (earlier, when they had news on) showed several. Burning a flag, standing on a flag, and waving a confederate flag ....ugly images.
cwydro
(51,308 posts)Scary that there may be more like him. Are they gloating on these websites, I wonder?
I'm afraid to even look at those sites.
H2O Man
(73,558 posts)the link from Will on FaceBook. It is horrible. And not that much is upsetting to me any more. But those pictures, and his vicious attempt to sound intelligent, made me vomit. Literally.

(12,232 posts)And I would bet on there being some connections.
Ichingcarpenter
(36,988 posts)it contained all the photos and other stuff. His site I guess is offline now after I found the link to it.
The site had two choices to click... photos and thoughts and only had his Rhodesian flag on it with its title.

(73,558 posts)Thank you for this. Very important.

(84,711 posts). Agree...there's more to this puzzle. But definitely doesn't excuse what he did in any way in this
heinous crime.
But, we need to know more about what was going on there that a kid who seems to have not finished high school...just hanging around would pull all the history together about that Church its Congregation and Slavery to go to Historic Sites to figure out how exactly he was going to execute this dreadful crime right on the anniversary of the Slave Uprising and Massacre. Seems awfully well thought out unless he was a latent genius ..with a great interest in Historic Charleston and Slavery that he could visit everyone of those Historic Sites (of which there are many at locations a distance apart) taking selfies (at a distance) as he devised his plot to strike at such a time for maximum exposure. Hillary Clinton had just left after giving a talk at the Tech College and Jeb was coming in next day. Bernie was scheduled for this Sunday Night. Who Took his Selfies or were they Selfies? Was someone else taking pictures in front of every known Historical Site having to do with Slavery (of which there are many) in that History City. There's still much we don't know about him.
That guy was some real good planner for a drug addicted, possibly abused, 21 year old who had dropped out of high school off and on.
We don't know enough yet about any influence on him. But, what he did is so dreadful its hard to think about anything else.
I know Charleston very well...and the Historic sites...that's why I'm puzzled about the "Selfies" at distance and his meticulous traveling to each of them including the Civil War graveyards. He was not from Charleston.

I just happen to follow some stuff and people on the net that caught this story before the news. I still think there is stuff on his computer that can reveal his chats in forums.

14 refers to the "14 words", which is pure white supremacist drivel:

(269,026 posts)A racist website showing photos of Roof that contains a long white supremacist screed was discovered Saturday registered under the name Dylann Roof, using Roof's mother's home address. NBC News could not confirm the site's authenticity or whether Roof was its creator.

(154,021 posts)For the record, none has been able to confirm Roof is the author, but if he is, there are plenty of echoes in there from oh... RW reporting (yes FOX), as well as oh classic crap at racist websites.
Apparently this young man self radicalized, which is a theory I posited yesterday. Not that I expect that poster here to even say I am sorry.
Damn. Been doing this too long I think, thinking on how people get this way.
