Hey, South Carolina its time to take down the Stars & Bars
By Post Editorial Board
The only flag flying full-staff on the grounds of South Carolinas Capitol in the wake of Wednesdays massacre of nine black people in a Charleston church was the Confederate one.
Time to take it down, folks.
In the Palmetto State, the Stars and Bars has flown on the statehouse grounds and originally over the Capitol itself since 1959. Yes, the South has changed. South Carolina has a black US senator and a governor of color, Indian-American Nikki Haley. But that flags still there, even if the state handed off responsibility to an outside body.
Yes, some white Southerners point to it as a symbol of regional pride. But it represented a bloody rebellion against the United States in defense of slavery. Symbolism is what the whole controversy is about, to both sides. Many blacks consider it akin to flying the Nazi swastika; others, perhaps less offended, still know what its really meant to denote for plenty of its fans. Thats why accused killer Dylann Roofs car sported a vanity license plate with the Stars and Bars, emblazoned Confederate States of America.

I think there's enough of a public outcry, that this may happen. Even republicans are saying it...

They would be admitting defeat. No amount of evidence will jar them into admitting they are wrong.

If that rag is saying so and a bill is introduced by a repub, support may snowball.
