The most frightening thing about "Idiocracy"

Last edited Sat Jun 20, 2015, 03:12 AM - Edit history (1)

Is that about a third of the American populace is already there.

That it is a Fox film is disturbing beyond belief. Murdoch told us what he is doing to the world. And to Fox it is funny.

I couldn't laugh.

Controlled by machines, the absence of individuality the rejection of intellectual thought.

Lumpen mounds of flesh, limping through existence in a haze, only pursuing the basest of acts.

Controlled and engineered by the corporate media.

DEVO were far more right than they ever dreamed possible. They thought it was satire but people are so much dumber now than even 40 years ago even they couldn't have imagined it.

To have watched it in real time is disturbing beyond words.

The major ethical problem that arises is what to do with the ineducable moron majority. The solutions range from awful to unthinkable but something has to be done. Morons and greedheads cannot be allowed to destroy the human race. That is the ultimate abandonment of responsibility.

There are no pretty choices. As far as we know there is no other "intelligent" life in the universe. This precious toehold cannot be sacrificed.

"I'll buy that for a dollar!" from their top-rated comedy show.

"Give us three minutes and we'll give you the world!" - the epitome of "headline news"

And so on.

Dev-O rules, by the way

collegiate satirists from Ohio would pose the definitive question for the survival of humanity?

animated series and also Beavis and Butthead.
Idiocracy is his best work.
It is a dark satire about the state of the world and our future.
Murdoch had nothing to do with the making of the film except that his studio paid for it.
They did that because Fox has made like a billion $$ of KOTH and wanted to keep Mike Judge happy.
This is what he gave them as FU to the studio and the world.

Funny thing is the studio pulled the film from theatrical release literally because the Fox Marketing Dept could not cut a trailer for the film that didn't anger test audiences
because it skewers everyone and calls them idiots.
It's a famous behind the scenes incident here in the business when it was pulled and why.
It got a weak DVD release and lives on in VOD now.

Look how it angered you.
Imagine if you were the marketing dept and had to sell that.
The film is genius because the world is so fucking stupid now and we let it be that way.
It's only going to get worse.

It was. In 6 theaters. I actually almost went because I loved Beavis and Butthead. On Chicago it was at Piper's Alley, kinda an art house.

As far as I know, it is the most explicitly pro eugenics movie I have seen. And short of The Camp of the Saints, perhaps the most pro eugenics form of art out there.

Re Devo: in the documentary, one of the members hit it exactly : we are just getting uglier and stupider.

Evolution does not exist. Natural selection does. Right now the society we have favors the stupid fecund gluttons of the world where Ow, My Balls is considered great and a Kardashian is considered the untouchable lion of progressive morality.

We are fucked.

Fan of both.

It didn't so much anger me as depress me. The best satire is usually set in "another" world that is in essence the one in which the satirist lives. Judge and his co-writer basically burn down American society in that film. The mirror they hold up shows an unspeakably ugly reflection.

Not only do they not have their own smart children because they're worried about their high paying careers, they presumably built the system which seems to run by itself and has given all the dumb people the ability to procreate.

Her roomates were like the dumb future people... It was a really shocking experience. When president "Camacho" was introduced one of them seriously asked "is that supposed to be Obama?".
