9. To be honest, it's just one more drip through the leaky roof of democracy.

Coming of age in the 60's has provided a look back over a lot of violence and cause for embarrassment. I got out of high school and the Watts Riots were happening. Between them and the Vietnam war, my conscience was being tested. Ever since then we'd avoided all out war, but still seemed a cohesive society to me. It's only been since the really penetrating revelations of the OJ Simpson trial and beating of Rodney King that I found old wounds opened - possibly for good.

I kept thinking we we'd achieve a kind of maturity that I doubt is possible now. Maybe in the days ahead when more and more people of all colors suffer, we'll become responsible for each other and live the promise of our Constitution.

13. There was a period of hope in the early 70s

When the black community themselves felt that things might honestly get better. And that scene from the movie "Revenge of the Nerds" was true to life as I've seen it with my own eyes Blacks coming to the rescue of folks being tormented by those who felt their "Privilege" gave them the right to persecute whom ever they liked

But the 80s with it's "Crack Cocaine" took its toll and rolled back all the hard fought progress of the 60s and 70s. Bigots had a reason to instill fear of the Blackman once again. Small wonder the writer who broke the story of the CIA connection to the shipment of crack cocaine into the intercity committed suicide by shooting himself in the head - TWICE shortly after Bush 41 was sworn into office

I noted to myself how much I left out (70's & 80's). What you added here was the missing link towards the unending friction over drugs, the war on drugs, and militarization of our police. A horrible cocktail of violence for our communities.

if I had anything to do with any of the people you're ranting about, but I don't, so I'm not. All that stuff you're talking about just makes me angry, same as you. And I didn't vote to elect a Black man to the highest office in the land, I voted for Barack Obama.

20. I've been on many message boards over the past 15 years

People get banned. I can understand the concern if the customary rules were in place here. I made a very vague and flippant reference to a gay trait and my post was deleted. I see that as political correctness. I was stunned.

I admit to not knowing all the rules for posting at DU. I assume I won't go afoul because I don't attack people or even rant. Not my style. But I see big time posters here leave heaping piles of words which are offensive to me and to my own beliefs. It turns me off. I leave and go elsewhere for my conversation on politics when it becomes pervasive at DU. I hope others find a more congenial place for civil debate too.

I'm an old white woman, white people start talking to me with their racial bullshit thinking I must be one of them. I used to keep quiet because who wants to argue with idiots all day but years ago I just couldn't stand it anymore. My daughters father is black, my grandsons father is black. I let them talk about the thugs and welfare queens for a few minutes and then show them pictures of my black daughter, black son in law and black grandson and ask them what if I said this about your family? A minute ago you thought I respected you, what do you think I think of you now?
