Personally, I think they should have postponed that vote to show some small sense of decency and humanity during this nightmare.

But that's jmho.

Not only is it offensive it makes it look like you have an agenda and are very racially insensitive; being that this is a time of mourning, you could have certainly skipped that.

sorry it came off as insensitive

Who I am insensitive toward are the politicians who have created this racially tense situation by promoting racially motivated wars on innocents in the middle east, then using it as a cover to pass an incredibly controversial bill.

Young people growing up after 9/11 think it is perfectly reasonable to be a racist liar, kill people and get away with it.

And young people before 9/11 didn't think it was perfectly reasonable to do that? Who did 9/11? Young people, right? Who has lynched and murdered blacks for hundreds of years? Are you seriously saying that young people, growing up after 9/11, are more racist because of the Iraq war?

You blame this ass's racism on the Iraq war? Seriously?

Seriously?

I don't mean to be flip about that. But really it does beg for a definition of national tragedy.

The killing was outrageous and a violation of all that civil society typically means, no doubt. National tragedy? What bench mark is that measured against?

Is that the criteria for a national tragedy? The WH staff point the president to making a statement?

I guess Dems not supporting TAA was a national tragedy. Right?

It IS a national tragedy when a white man kills nine African American citizens and subjects a five year old to play dead to save her life in a place that is supposed to be of peace and comfort, just because he doesn't like the color of their skin. It's a fucking national tragedy and national shame. It makes us suck.

Is it todays big news story? Yes, undoubtedly.

We actually don't know much about it's real national significance.

If this was a result of say 5 such attempts across the country at Black churches it would be much more certain.

As it is, it seem to be the act of one person, against one venue. It was indeed horrific. But, How do we identify this one event as nationally significant? I question the notion that minutes dedicated to the story on CNN or Fox is meaningful in this regard.

in Birmingham that killed four little girls. We still commemorate that tragedy every year. This was more than twice the four girls. I can't help you if you don't think it is. This is on going civil rights issue and people are tired of the deliberate obtuseness of those who refuse to see.

Maybe they could have postponed, maybe not; I don't know.
Did the government ask businesses to close? Post Offices? FEMA?
Is it disrespectful that I am at work right now?

While a tragedy, one that has been felt across the country, I don't really see the need for the government to shut down business.

What do they work... 50 days per year?

Out of respect, and because they know damn well that Americans are very angry about the TPP and don't want it passed....

They should have postponed...so that it wouldn't look like they are using a tragedy as political cover to get what they want.
