Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) called out House Republicans who clamor to blame Pres. Obama for everything, including ISIS, when it was really the Bush-Cheney Iraq war started under false pretenses that created the environment for ISIS to grow.
What we dont need is the idea that blaming Obama for everything constitutes a foreign policy strategy, Sherman said. The fact is that it was the Bush administration that installed and left Maliki in power. It was Maliki that expelled all our forces and would not allow a residual force.
Sherman went on to conclude, the great problem with Iraq today is what Maliki did to that country, and the person who installed Maliki was the former President of the United States, President George W. Bush.
Kudos to Congressman Sherman for calling out Republicans for their attempt to deceive the public and hide the truth about how Bush left Iraq in shambles. Now Pres. Obama is forced to clean up the mess Republicans left behind.

(6,699 posts)But hey, that's not how our disgusting politics works in this country. Honestly, they blame President Obama for EVERYTHING. The pool party fiasco was Obama's fault. Fergusson was Obama's fault. The IRS debacle was Obama's fault. Benghazi was Obama's fault. EVERYTHING AWFUL was Obama's fault. It's how our politics works; and it's how our media parrots the BS to the near brainless audiences.

I wonder what explains the Obama derangement syndrome among a portion of this site. I think many overestimate the power of the presidency, particularly where there's a Congress in strong opposition.

(6,699 posts)I'm not much on conspiracy theories and the like; but just possibly he's not as upset about the trade deal going down as some would like to believe. The unions are opposed to it, progressive minds are against it, and it looks like the corporate party is wanting it pretty badly. I just can't get my head around President Obama fighting for it. Might be a weak fight for the sake of votes somewhere in the next election for certain politicians?
Time will tell.

(12,872 posts)We must disabuse ourselves of the notion that we had the right to invade Iraq in the first place and that things would have turned out fine if someone other than Maliki would have risen to power in the aftermath of the destruction we inflicted. Was it Maliki that dismantled the Iraqi army, opened the gates to al Qaeda, tortured prisoners at Abu Ghraib, and spurred the recruitment of jihadists from all over the world to fill the ranks of what became ISIS?
Operation Iraqi Freedom was doomed from the start, and it was in fact a war crime.
If we don't acknowledge that, we're doomed to repeat it.
