The TPP appears to threaten
OUR ability to regulate firearms?
When foreign gun manufactures
are prohibited from selling their
products...30 round magazines,
auto or semi auto firearms,
various munitions...
THEY CAN SUE THE TAXPAYERS!
Foreign gun manufacturers
will sue US taxpayers for regulations
which hurt or prohibit their profits.
Why won't US gun laws be voided
or result in expensive compensation
for lost profits?

(9,951 posts)You really need to educate yourself on the regulations on firearms in this country.

(1,127 posts)or a gun without a background check and that's why people dont sell guns out of the trunk of their car to people shouldn't have them
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)and I've come out for BCG's on all firearms sales.
The poster was wrong about there being no regulations in this country, all he/she has to do is educate themselves before spouting nonsense.

(3,498 posts)If a nation wants to export
high capacity magazines
which WE have banned,
the TPP allows for
dispute resolution, right?
The manufacturer can sue
for lost profits, right?
Banning automatic firearms
costs manufacturers sales, right?
They can sue for those losses, right?

(9,951 posts)and very few states ban hi cap mags.

(3,498 posts)The push for existing and
NEW regulation is seriously
damaged by the TPP.
If China wanted to sell fully auto
firearms to US citizens they could
sue US taxpayers for the lost profit?
If Russia wanted to sell banned
munitions through a 3rd party TPP
member nation they could sue for
lost profit as well?
TPP seems like a firearms manufacturer
or import/exporter's trump card?

(3,498 posts)In essence the TPP and ISDS
affords greater legal rights to
foreign businesses than those
available to domestic businesses.

(39,171 posts)Where is the evidence of this? Show me the actual wording of the TPP.
ISDS has been around for decades - show me some specific examples of how they have undermined US Federal and state laws.

(39,171 posts)something tells me the truth, as always, lies somewhere between the two extremes.
Cosmic Kitten
(3,498 posts)Sounds like FUD on their part?
TPP appears to threaten bans
if only because of the economic
consequences of ISDS?
It's not clear how China
suing the US taxpayers
for lost profit would result
in MORE regulations???
Sounds counter intuitive?

(34,845 posts)A foreign company cannot sue unless we specifically put into place laws that prevent them from trying to compete here. It's a hedge against protectionism.
It's that simple.
