Hooters waitress donates kidney to long-time Hooters customer

This is a heartwarming story from Hooters, better known for different kind of heat -- namely, hot wings and even hotter waitresses. But it was the kind heart of a Hooters waitress in Roswell, Georgia, that outshone everything else, as she donated one of her kidney's to an ailing Vietnam veteran and her favorite customer.

KTLA-5 reports that waitress Marianna Villareal made the life-saving gift late last month, donating one of her kidneys to customer Donald Thomas. a Vietnam war veteran, father of two, and a 10-year Hooters customer diagnosed with late-stage kidney failure, the news station writes, adding:

Villareal and Thomas became friends about the same time her own grandmother was going through a similar medical issue, "but I wasn't able to help her and it will forever be in my heart," Villareal said.

The successful surgery occurred at the Piedmont Transplant Institute last month, with Villareal posting on Instagram following the operation: "The kidney is a PERFECT match and is working amazingly!"

Hooters also donated $20,000 to the National Kidney Foundation in Villareal's name.

The story went viral on social media and Villareal has been getting supportive messages from all over the world.

I realize they didn't do that, but it's an "appearance-based" job, and it always does seem that no good deed goes unpunished, nowadays!

That woman is a very special person to do that. I hope good things come to her. What generosity!

I know of a man who made several business trips every year to the same city. He got in the habit of using the same airport limo to get downtown. His regular driver was absent on one trip. The man found out his driver needed a kidney, so he gave him one of his. If it matters, the man was a privileged white male and the driver was a middle eastern immigrant.
