Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust out of idle curiosity.... whom did this Gutierrez person back for mayor in Chicago?
Emmanuel or Garcia.
Just trying to get a sense of where he's coming from.
I never heard of him ( which doesn't mean much) but a quick look thru his wiki page seems to indicate a person w. some legit progressive creds.
Chicago politics are notoriously corrupt.... as we all know... but they are also complicated.
My assumption is that he's working for the "team"..... i.e. Clinton, Daley, Duncan, Emmanuel, blah, blah, bla (govavich? ).... but again, he seems to boast some real progressive credentials.
So... who the heck is he.... and whom did he support in the Chi. mayoral race?

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez's loan from a developer who contributes to his campaign raises questions about how clout drives the city's zoning system
October 29, 2008|By Robert Becker, Todd Lighty and Dan Mihalopoulos, TRIBUNE REPORTERS and Tribune reporter Jeff Coen contributed to this report.
U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez personally lobbied Mayor Richard Daley to back a controversial multimillion-dollar development for a campaign contributor who had just lent the congressman $200,000 in a real estate deal, a Tribune investigation has found.
Now the congressman's unusual gesture of support is under federal scrutiny as authorities investigate how developers overcame city planners' objections to convert the West Side industrial site into a more profitable residential and commercial development.

and there's more. He lobbied for a huge amount of money from Paulsen to bail out a PR bank, The Banco Popular and failed to disclose his close ties- the bank donated big bucks to him and his wife had worked there in a senior position.

(14,498 posts).... in these elaborate "hoarding" (for lack of a better term) schemes we could not only end world hunger but solve global warming at the same time.
I can't say I'm shocked.
I'm *impressed* ....as I ALWAYS am.... by the ingenious nature of the scheme.
But not shocked. Or even surprised.
