Great show with good people, including Wendy Davis, about the Texas abortion horror.
(But I'm sure someone will find something to object to-- preferably without listening)

(53,072 posts)but there is no question that pressing Sanders on non-existent dual citizenship was inappropriate. I expect we will see antisemitism rearing its head throughout the campaign, just as sexism is evident in some of the comments about Clinton. This is still America.

(22,890 posts)It is disappointing that she failed to fact check an internet story about dual Israeli/U.S. citizenship. to Rehm's credit, she immediately acknowledged it could have been an internet hoax, and she quickly apologized. As far as I'm concerned , It's over. I was rather surprised by the rabid rhetoric of some Bernie supporters.

(20,522 posts)What should be the reaction if she had said that to PBO?

(22,890 posts)Rehm immediately acknowledges it might have been an internet hoax. Rehm errors in her haste to make a scoop and quickly apologizes (none of that, I'm sorry if feelings were hurt). Foul, but no harm.

(58,724 posts)Here are her words in the exchange:
Diane Rehm: Senator, you have dual citizenship with Israel.
Rehm: I understand from a list we have gotten that you were on that list.
Rehm: Forgive me if that is
Rehm: Interesting. Are there members of Congress who do have dual citizenship or is that part of the fable?
Her later apology was for declaring as a statement that he has dual citizenship rather than asking it as a question.

(22,890 posts)Counts as an apology in my book. And it was immediate.
Kind of weird for her to even go there, though - would you agree?

(22,890 posts)As someone else pointed out, it was surely someone on her research staff who put it on the agenda. And she was right. She should have asked it as a question and indicate the source rather than stated it as fact.

Lots of stuff I end up streaming.

(1,488 posts)... anything that couldn't be absolutely verified.
One caller talked about the requirements of Texas sex ed and Rehm took a much more "Well, interesting if true..." tone.

(22,336 posts)Saying someone said something inappropriate is not saying someone is evil, just like saying someone said something racist is not calling them A Racist, and saying someone said something sexist is not calling them A Misogynist.

(But I'm sure someone will justify it as righteous and rational conversation-- most likely, without thought)

(29,503 posts)she obviously wanted to make an issue of Sanders' Judaism. For whatever reason.
By the way, I'd never heard of her prior to this kerfluffle with him, and likely won't ever hear of her after it blows over.
As someone else said upthread, she immediately apologized, unequivocally, and as far as I'm concerned, it's over. I've probably done the same kind of thing, unwittingly, many times. We're human.
