betting. Back in the 80's some buddies and I used to go to a track in a bigger city 100 mles away. I read books on it, learned to read the daily racing form and handicap races. I could go up there and seemed to either break even or win a couple hundred pretty easily. I really thought I might retire somewhere near a good track that I could get to easily, have some fun and supplement my income.

It got so it was hard to make any money. I'd go to the track and tried online for awhile. What screws it up is that everyone and their dog all over the country/world now gets the daily racing form from the track you are at or betting online. It used to be just playing against the crowd there that day. You see a good longshot, put together an exacta box or something, and before the race goes off, your longshot is bet way down so even if it comes through, it doesn't pay anywhere near what it would have years ago.

I should have quit years before though. One time when I was losing at the track, on the last race I had two long shots I thought might come through and wanted to place a four horse exact box but didn't have enough money. I had to throw out one of the two long shots. It was trying to tell me but I didn't listen. The horse I threw out came through with my other two and I would have won $300 bucks! The name of the horse I threw out was Big Celebration! That one haunts me to this day! LOL

I don't think Charlie Rose can manage six furlongs in under 1:20!
