Me - not really keen to jump in anyone's camp and I'm not in any rush to pick teams. Don't get me wrong - I like everyone running for the Democrats although there are reasons why I'm not ready to support any one candidate 100%. Of course part of me keeps hoping that Joe Biden tosses his hat in the ring but it just seems unlikely after the loss of his son Beau, who I thought one day himself could be a great candidate for President.
I'm not here to ask you why I should vote for your candidate or for that matter why I shouldn't vote for the other candidate. In the end here's how I'm note voting in November 2016 and that's for anyone that could help elect the person with the R next to their name. And I will say right now I will work hard to help elect the Democrat.
But it is fun watching what is essentially a rerun of what happened in 2008. I figured by the time the Delaware primaries roll around the candidates will be determined.
So if you are still on 'Team Undecided GO Democrats!' check-in!!! (TUGOD)
Edit note: if you have decided I would ask that you NOT use this thread as a recruiting thread to your team. I think some of us like the idea of 'wait and see'

(45,490 posts)I'd encourage everyone to keep an open mind and listen to all our candidates. Unlike the GOP, we have 3 great candidates.

(28,394 posts)I will vote for the democratic nominee. Our primary is late and rarely makes a difference (PA). I haven't decided yet who will get my vote eleven months from now!
None of the candidates really sets my heart afire this time. Maybe I'm just tired of it all at this point in my life.

(522 posts)I will vote for Senator Sanders if my primary vote will count. I live in Montana and by the time we have our primary election the decision has already been made.
I think we should have a National Primary election so that all Primary votes count.

(40,168 posts)but not so much lately.
I wish someone like John Batchell would run, but someone who is more aggressive. He has a great philosophy and is a great organizer, but needs to not shy away from the base ideals. These people moderate and pretty soon their labels have a bad connotation. I say rise up and declare your values proudly.
Not a fan of third-way-style Democrats, which means I'm not a fan of Clinton. I like Sanders's policies, but would far prefer he remain in the Senate - I think he can get more done for us there. And not sure about O'Malley.
So I'm kinda undecided.

(13,218 posts)I don't mind a bunch of nominees as long as they aren't clowns. So far I do favor Hillary and Bernie. I haven't seen enough of Martin O'Malley and Lincoln Chafee to have an opinion. I really enjoy having a flush of good candidates though!

(1,451 posts)I like Bernie Sanders. but will vote for Hillary if she is the nominee. I just didn't like the idea of crowning her queen without a good fight. She needs to really see where the country is at. And its not with a bunch of old ass oligarchs.

(31,849 posts)I have donated to Bernie, he needs the cash to get his message out (and am still thinking about donating to O'Malley) and won't donate to HRC. she doesn't need my cash, yet.
I am doing, and will do general Democratic Party voter registration/GOTV work until after the primaries, then I figure 20 hours a week, working for the nominee.
What I will not be doing is criticizing ANY Democratic candidate ... except, maybe ... yeah, except Jim, "must attract the working class white vote by jettisoning 'special interest groups' (read: non-whites males)" Webb.

I have no horse in this race except the D. I like different things about all of our candidates so far. I am a little pissed at Bernie right now over his gaming of the patriot act vote, but I will get over that assuming he does not continue with that sort of behavior.
All of them would make good presidents in their own right.
I think this will end up being an election I will pay a lot more attention to the clown car on the other side.

(48,955 posts)I have a lot of time to read, listen and decide before that time.
Besides, before Obama - no one I have ever been behind before the primaries started (if there was an open primary) has ever been elected. 84 - Hart; 88 - Biden; 92 - Tsongas; (00 wasn't really open imo - and I was for Gore - but am not counting it); 04 - Dean.
So maybe if you have joined a team - you don't want to recruit me until it is a safe bet.
I will read groups and comment here and there - but am probably not going to join the fray until a much later date.

(1,606 posts)Many variables to consider, but Bernie is out of the gate with energy and a strong message. If anything, the Sanders camp needs to ramp up fast, as events are consistently exceeding expectations of the planners. Good problem to have.

(12,126 posts)There is one out of the three running I will not vote for in the primary for sure -- unless a major miracle occurs -- and depending on the day and what they say I can lean more toward one or the other of the remaining two.
If Elizabeth Warren were running, this would be another post from me. But as she is not, will wait and see. Perhaps send money in general to help the campaigns while I am waiting to make a decision.
I will vote for the candidate that acknowledges that the Climate Crisis needs to be addressed.
I will vote for the candidate who doesn't support the travesty of a trade agreement going forward now.
I will vote for the candidate I think will beat the best the GOP puts up --- and given the current crop of losers, a dead dog would win over any one of them -- so not much a concern at this point.

(34,136 posts)Who knows what will happen between now and then or what information will come out about some "favored" candidate? I'll make my choice closer to the actual primary for my state.
Meanwhile, I see a lot of good in the various Democratic candidates. I like a couple of people better than others and if I had to vote today it would be a hard choice.
No matter who the nominee is, I will vote Democratic even if my favorite candidate goes third party - because the reality is that a third party candidate has no chance of winning and the thought of living under a Republican president with a Republican Congress is terrifying.

(5,829 posts)I'm not allowed to vote in primaries because I refuse to be a member of a political party (tho Obama canvasser convinced me in 2008 to briefly party up; she was brave knocking on doors in this Repub enclave & prob felt empowered finding an independant). But even if I could, it's too early to be that sure.

(11,175 posts)Among our four declared candidates, I put O'Malley and Sanders in Tier 1, Chafee and Clinton in Tier 2. Within each tier I'm undecided. If Webb declares he'll be Tier 3.
The way the system works, I don't really have until I vote to make up my mind. By the time of my (June) primary, it's likely that the race will be over. If I want to affect the choice, I'll need to decide early on how to direct my money and volunteer time.
I'm fully with you for November. Barring a political earthquake, I'll be voting for the Democratic nominee.

(1,980 posts)I prefer Sanders on policy, but I think Clinton would probably be an effective executive. The real question for me is whether continuous pressure could be put on Clinton to keep her from shifting right or whether she could pull an LBJ and reverse course on certain issues. If one of those were true, I'd probably go with her.
I'm waiting until everyone has announced and come out with policy positions.

(95,337 posts)and I still and loyal to team Biden but I think that's a longshot.

(62,444 posts)Between that and the Greek festival.
I'll probably get out to St. Anthony's festival though.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)Luckily they stopped the closures and no parking right before my block.
But that also means people living on those blocks need to find a place to park so I figured I better get home and park my car now. I'm working from home tomorrow. Just not even worth dealing with the traffic mess.
I still can't figure out why they picked St Anthonys. I thought the Bidens went to the church out in Greenville. With the Greek and Italian Festival it's going to be a traffic nightmare. I have to think the Greeks are pissed with the street shutdown because it goes right up towards their festival. But I think St Francis just opened up their garage for free parking so that will help big time. I'm half tempted to just put my car in the garage for the next couple of days and not deal with it.

(24,578 posts)I like our candidates and see no reason to decide this early in the process. I am enjoying learning about O'Malley since I know him least. I have found his supporters to be very friendly and helpful to those meeting him for the first time.
We have a long way to go, and it is already getting painful with the mud being thrown. We need to save that for the republicans, not our own candidates.

(11,833 posts)I'm pretty much undecided but look forward to voting in the primaries. I'm leaning toward Bernie but there's a long way to go between now and when I vote. I like Hillary. I've never voted for her before but I think she's a really good person. In 2008 I felt like she and Obama were two of the strongest candidates for the democratic nomination that I'd ever seen. As time went on though I was so impressed with Barack Obama that I became emotionally and intellectually attached to him. I still am. I'm interested in how this race plays out. I'm also interested in how Hillary campaigns this time around.

(60,336 posts)I am leaning one way, but open to new ideas. I have not seen anything yet to make me stand up and say, I support this.
I will say unless there is an overwhelming reason, the more pressure I get from one candidates surrogates, the less likely I am to support that candidate. It is way too early to say this is the one, no others will come close or this candidate is the only candidate that supports ________________.
It takes more than one issue to make a candidate and no one candidate is the perfect candidate. The only thing that really matters is keeping the fuking republicans out of office.

(944 posts)There's plenty of time left for it all to shake down.
I'll vote for the Democrat who I believe can win in the primary and will certainly vote for the Democratic nominee in the general election.
The Supreme Court nominations that will probably be made by the next president are too important to let the presidency fall to a Republican!!!

(37,428 posts)...rather than just letting the rest of us pick a nominee.
Of course, at this point one could fairly join all the teams. It is early, as you say.
First, my primary is Delaware so pretty much the choice will be made for me anyways. I don't have a primary until well after Super Tuesday.
Second, I like all the candidates. They all have a few issues that bother me and yes even Bernie. But there isn't one Democrat out there I would be challenged to support in November unless for some crazy reason you early primary folks dig up the corpse of Stalin and nominate him as our candidate. Then maybe we Delawareans should have an earlier primary.
And honestly, I really do not feel like spending the next 10 months getting in a fighting match with all the other supporters from other candidates as to why my candidate is somehow all superior when I think all the candidates are superior. I mean there is one I think is more superior than the others but I don't think he is running (Joe Biden) and if even if Biden runs I don't think he could get the nomination and not really sure I want to put the effort into the primaries when I want to go gungho in the general election anyways.

(37,748 posts)I'm leaning towards one, but no real decision yet. It looks like Clinton and Sanders both have very strong CVs, strong convictions and progressive ideals they'd both like to put into policy.
So I sit and wait and ponder and reflect... and hope that whomever I eventually choose best fits the needs of the country and my own personal desire to see change affected in particular arenas of politics and policy.
My lack of decision to date has really opened my eyes to an extreme bias of particular posters I'd previously thought rational.
(For what it's worth, I still use the League of Women's Voters website; checking policy positions and analysis with very little editorial or subjectivity is a strength of the LWV that I've learned rely on-- as they tend to avoid under-educated statements like 'un-electable' and sub-literate labels-of-convenience like 'corporatist' )
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)It goes away after the primaries.
I thought Hillary was very gracious after Obama won the nomination and gave the speech of a lifetime which helped to unify the party. The media played the Democratic Convention in 2008 like we were divided and that Hillary was going to take her supporters and start a 3rd party run or possibly support McCain because I guess women support other women because they have the same body parts and McCain picked Palin. (somewhere there is logic with that).
But that never happened and the party was very united but of course the media still found a few dissenters, the 'PUMA' (party united my ass) who swore that the Hillary 'supporters' were not going to support Obama blah blah blah.
Turns out the PUMAs were not very plentiful and those who vowed they were also PUMAs here at DU didn't last long in DU membership. And as you know, Skinner and Earlg have shown to be big Clinton supporters. But even they were united from the start with Obama once he was nominated.
So for those who stay irrational they will not last long at DU. This a website for Democratic supporters. People are welcome to say what they want before the primaries but afterwards we all support the Democratic nominee. That's what this website is about. If people feel that strongly about not supporting him or her, then they can go elsewhere.

(19,565 posts)It's still early and I'm watching Sanders and O'Malley try on the national stage to get a better feel for them as candidate. I'm also doing some background reading on both candidates. I'm also open to seeing what's new with Clinton since 07/08.
I have plenty of time to make my decision still.
