When Will You Think It's Weird?

https://www.ted.com/talks/mellody_hobson_color_blind_or_color_brave/transcript?language=en

Mellody Hobson is my shero. She's the CEO of Ariel Investments and she's one of the only two black women who are CEOs of publicly traded companies in America (or she was when she made this video).

Here, she talks about race. It's a VERY LONG video, maybe 10 minutes long, but this link also has the transcript if you don't have time to watch it.

The "When will you think it's weird?" line is 3 minutes into the video. Hopefully the question will be thought-provoking.

Women of color are equally competent to run these companies, so why is it not happening? The fact is simple racism and good old boys networks. I am male and am embarrassed by this sort of thing. It should not happen. If these are publicly traded companies, then the public should have a stake in this. I say a federal program to ensure a certain percentage of CEOs and high level executives are women of color and other groups discriminated against. The diversity would ensure a better balance in the company and better products/services to meets the needs of everyone.
