Democrats allied with Hillary Rodham Clinton are mounting a nationwide legal battle 17 months before the 2016 presidential election, seeking to roll back Republican-enacted restrictions on voter access that Democrats say could, if unchallenged, prove decisive in a close campaign.
The Democrats began last month with lawsuits filed in Ohio and Wisconsin, presidential battleground states whose governors are likely to run for the Republican nomination themselves. Now, they are most likely going to attack a host of measures. They include voter identification requirements that Democrats consider onerous, time restrictions imposed on early voting that they say could make it difficult to cast ballots the weekend before Election Day, and rules that could nullify ballots cast in the wrong precinct.
The effort, which is being spearheaded by a lawyer whose clients include Mrs. Clintons campaign, reflects an urgent practical need, Democrats say: to get litigation underway early enough so that federal judges can be persuaded to intervene in states where Republicans control legislatures and governors offices.

"What is the background of the name 'Democratic Underground?' We were the "Underground" fighting against the Republicans, who were in power at the time. Ironically, it seems that many people took the name to mean 'Underground fighting against Democrats.' I was so naive. Back when I started this site I had no clue so many Democrats hated Democrats." - Skinner
Many of us were quite disgusted that the establishment Dems sat on their thumbs while bush stole the election. Yeah, we are pissed at some Dems. Duh! Still are! Duh!

(13,685 posts)But like most, she sat on her thumb while elections were stolen all across the US. We need real change and hope for clean elections. I doubt Hill will bring it.
Vote Bernie!

(1,381 posts)It was written to mirror the Indiana law the the Supreme Court already verified.
I also remember that the SC has refused to review Wisconsins law, so it is now the law of the land here, so how do they think they will prevail.

(7,901 posts)Mrs. Clintons campaign is not a party to the lawsuits, although her aides have said her team supports them.
The suit in North Carolina began over a year ago without any notice or help form either HRC or most of the rest of the Democratic party Leadership.
Late again to the dance Third Way gangsters. Thanks for doing exactly nothing for North Carolina Democratic voters once again!

(7,901 posts)he represents. There have been lawsuits since the laws were changed but this appears to be the first time HRC has said anything at all about the issue, let alone the particular voters affected.
Mr Elias seems to have a rather divided agenda:

(7,901 posts)HRC and Democratic leadership are still quite late to the issue, along with Holder. Only interested once the cause has been lost and can then be used to scare others during fund raising.
Bobby Kennedy would have been all over this. Holder et al sat on their thumbs during the last 6 years while the laws were promoted and passed, even though the constitutional reading was clear. Too busy protecting Bankers and the NSA to protect ordinary voters or NC Democrats.
