(111,277 posts)Doing it once a week is going to add up, though.
Also, if you eat a healthy and varied diet, you're not going to be able to get whole portions of this stuff down, you'll need that doggy bag.

(12,754 posts)For most people it's not occasional. It's like saying smoking one cigarette won't hurt you. Eating these things, which are basically just sugar delivery systems, could be pleasurable (Once you've detoxed from sugar, they're not to hot), although they will throw your blood chemistry out of whack for a few days.

(3,937 posts)The study found heart attack risk jumped four times in the two hours after a large meal.
A very large meal may start the whole process of a heart attack, said Dr. Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, a cardiologist at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston.
...
Of those patients, 158 reported having an unusually large meal during the 26 hours before the attack. Twenty-five patients had the meal in the two hours before the attack.

(12,660 posts)I'd order that warm apple crisp if I was eating there with my husband and grand-daughter as a shared dessert. Heck, most everything at any of those food emporiums on the list are "order for two" or "doggy-bag" meals.

(3,714 posts)7. Sonic: Pineapple Upside Down Master Blast (2,020 calories)
This drinkable dessert comes with vanilla ice cream, pineapple, salted caramel and pie crust pieces. A large contains 2,020 calories, and 61 grams of saturated fat and 29 teaspoons of added sugar.
29 teaspoons of added sugar? How is that possible? When I hear about 29 teaspoons of added sugar, I envision someone making this, then adding 29 teaspoons of sugar. Or does the 29 teaspoons mean something else?

Those foods are mostly junk, but not because of the animal fat.

(65,076 posts)I really seriously doubt that ANYBODY who orders any of these doesn't know they are eating a boatload of food in one sitting and that they're going to be STUFFED(!) when they're done.
These lists are not going to stop anybody from doing anything. Seems a bit pointless to me.

CA has a menu labeling law requiring disclosure of calories and sometimes other metrics like saturated fat and sodium content for items sold at chain restaurants. Some people don't care and order what they want. Some substitute based on the data.
ProfessorGAC
(65,076 posts)I can see that. It still seems awfully preachy when i these lists carry the tone like this one. The commentary isn't just dispassionate data delivery. It's very morally superior in its tone.

(72,790 posts)I didn't like iHop--went once.
Been to Sonic twice. Not impressed.
Went to Cheesecake Factory once. Thought it was OK, but nothing special.
Edited: Missed this one.
Went to Outback once. Would never go back. The line to get in was so long and, to boot, the food was awful.
Have not been to the other places listed. Some we don't have in CT.

Cutting recipe in half (only 2 people in household). Can do without the sweetened coconut, and the low fat ice cream. Use frozen vanilla yogurt instead as wanted. Modify, modify, modify when you cook/bake yourself.

(68,918 posts)I'm sorry, but that shake sounds disgusting, and I doubt most people order that together. I'm not a fan of the look of the burger either, but it wouldn't hit the top nine on its own. I've had the iHop chorizo omelet, but I don't eat the pancakes and I bring 2/3s of it home. This was a ridiculously silly article.
