STOP TPP National Action Day. Call your Representative toll-free
The House of Representatives could vote on "Fast Track trade authority" any day now, which would short-circuit the typical legislative process that occurs when trade deals like the TPP come up for a vote.
Please call your Representative today. Here's two toll-free numbers to use:
1-855-980-2317
1-888-804-8311
A few key points to make when you call (some courtesy of Rep. Alan Grayson):
(1) The U.S. trade debt stands at eleven trillion dollars ($11,000,000,000,000.00)more than $35,000 for every person in Americaincluding you. "Fast Track" would make that number soar.
(2) Fast Track applies to whatever the president says is a trade agreement, even if it has nothing to do with trade.
(3) Fast Track restricts Congress from holding hearings, digging deep, debating a bill or offering amendments; basically, it keeps Congress from doing its job.
(4) No other bills get this treatment: not bills on taxes, or Social Security, or defense, or transportation, or healthcare.
(5) Fast Track greases the skids for deals being negotiated in secretand is designed to make sure theyre concluded quicklyand far away from the prying eyes of the American public. F
(6) Not one of the "standards" that Fast Track sets for trade agreements is enforceable. (The fact is: they talk a great game, but once Fast Track is in place, nobody can deliver on promised protections for things like U.S. jobs, Buy American policies, or any of our laws, if they threaten corporate profits.)
