There is no hope for America

George W. Bush outpolls Barack Obama
By NICK GASS 6/3/15 6:57 AM EDT Updated 6/3/15 8:41 AM EDT

Americans now have a more favorable view of former President George W. Bush than they do of President Barack Obama.

It is the first time in more than a decade that Americans have expressed a favorable view of Bush, at least according to a new CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday.

Bush is seen in a favorable light by 52 percent of those surveyed, compared with 43 percent who still view the 43rd president unfavorably. Americans are split on Obama, with 49 percent responding favorably and unfavorably.

The last time Bush polled in positive territory was in early April 2005, close to three months into his second term.

52% view Bush favorably compared with 43% who view Obama unfavorably.

Shouldn't that 52% be compared, instead, to the 49% who view Obama favorably?

I don't. If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer it. If it's important, it can go to voicemail. Otherwise, it's junk calls.

It seems like I'm reading more and more quotes on DU from that right-promoting website.

There's another Politico hit piece on the first page of GD this morning. Everything from Politico.com is slanted so heavily to the right that it's impossible to take their crap seriously.

Keep your head in the sand if you like. You can probably filter out anything with "politico" in it so you don't have to be bothered.

you can quote. Politico's analysis is always slanted to the right. It's not just news, it's analysis.

comes from Dems, and it's not because of his policies in office.

Just saw a new clip on TV where W is asked about his Obama performance opinion and he replied, paraphrasing, "The presidency is a very difficult job, and I'm not going to make it even more difficult as a former president's criticism would".

Too bad he can't talk to John McCain and friends about the negative effect they have on the President and the country...

Seem to question the methodology or source of polls when they don't tell people what they want to hear. Personally, I don't trust any of them, even when pollsters are trying to be objective.

Here's how the nation's press were magically transformed from watchdogs into lapdogs:

The Powell Memo (also known as the Powell Manifesto)

The Powell Memo was first published August 23, 1971

Introduction

In 1971, Lewis Powell, then a corporate lawyer and member of the boards of 11 corporations, wrote a memo to his friend Eugene Sydnor, Jr., the Director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The memorandum was dated August 23, 1971, two months prior to Powell’s nomination by President Nixon to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Powell Memo did not become available to the public until long after his confirmation to the Court. It was leaked to Jack Anderson, a liberal syndicated columnist, who stirred interest in the document when he cited it as reason to doubt Powell’s legal objectivity. Anderson cautioned that Powell “might use his position on the Supreme Court to put his ideas into practice…in behalf of business interests.”

Though Powell’s memo was not the sole influence, the Chamber and corporate activists took his advice to heart and began building a powerful array of institutions designed to shift public attitudes and beliefs over the course of years and decades. The memo influenced or inspired the creation of the Heritage Foundation, the Manhattan Institute, the Cato Institute, Citizens for a Sound Economy, Accuracy in Academe, and other powerful organizations. Their long-term focus began paying off handsomely in the 1980s, in coordination with the Reagan Administration’s “hands-off business” philosophy.

Most notable about these institutions was their focus on education, shifting values, and movement-building — a focus we share, though often with sharply contrasting goals.* (See our endnote for more on this.)

So did Powell’s political views influence his judicial decisions? The evidence is mixed. Powell did embrace expansion of corporate privilege and wrote the majority opinion in First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, a 1978 decision that effectively invented a First Amendment “right” for corporations to influence ballot questions. On social issues, he was a moderate, whose votes often surprised his backers.

Almost 10 years ago. People also get sick of someone who is always In The spotlight like a president after 6 years.

I bet if there were an election between bush and Obama that Obama would win by at least 8 points.

I have a more favorable opinion of him these days. He found his calling. Drinking and finger-painting. Wish he would have found his calling five decades ago. I'm always happy when someone truly finds what they are meant to do. He fucked up everything he touched in life before he left office.
