General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat do you think of a Bernie Sanders/Alan Grayson ticket for 2016?
I usually stay out of the candidate fray, but found myself rooting for Dennis Kucinich before and during the '08 Primaries, even though he was anti-handgun and I'm a gun owner. I'm NOT just a "one issue voter", I look at ALL of the qualities. I was also a John Edwards supporter until he shot himself in the dick... so to speak. Neither Clinton nor Obama were my first choice, but I voted for Obama in the General Election because he was the Democratic Nominee.
I'm finding myself *really* fired up over Bernie Sanders! I love his message and like the way he comes across... you can tell he is genuine, aka "The Real Deal" or "WYSIWYG". As for Alan Grayson, I just like his swagger and attitude. He's another "WYSIWYG" type and won't take shit from anyone. **ETA** I have been saying that the Dems need to engage in some "smash-mouth politics" ever since the swiftboating of John Kerry, and I think Grayson is the man for that job.
That being said, I won't be responding to many, if any, replies to this poll as I don't feel a need to do so just to build up my post count. If someone directs a personal response to me, then yeah, I'll answer out of courtesy but my goal is just to see how people feel about this ticket.
Peace,
Ghost

(115,735 posts)he's a loose cannon who seems to be kind of a bully. I like my politicians to have spines, but his spine seems to be connected to a huge asshole. His divorce has been as ugly as anything from the Jerry Springer show, and sure didn't cast him in a very good light. Like his politics, don't like him.

(14,912 posts)not affect his political actions. Look at Bill Clinton! Not a slam against him though, he was a bad husband, but a great POTUS.
It's like I told someone else the other night. I know quite a few people from NY & NJ and they have a "fuck you, and if you don't like it, fuck you even harder" attitude. As a Native Floridian, I also see that quality in him from there, too, and I like it.
To each his own, though. I like to see the different opinions and just had my eyes opened upthread about someone I had never heard of. Thanks for your input.

(115,735 posts)should not be a factor in their political life. However, Grayson's divorce has been so nasty and so public that it would be a real liability in an election. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/16/alan-grayson-divorce_n_5999804.html

I would be more interested in Barbara Lee, Nydia Velázquez, or Raúl Grijalva.

(29,503 posts)would make him weaken the ticket, not strengthen it. The baggage he'd bring would be a distraction, sadly.

(14,912 posts)I have no problem with a woman being President, or VP, and think it's past time for it to happen. I never thought I'd live to see the day when we elected an African American as President, but I did.
**THIS** is just about a ticket that I thought of and, as stated in the OP, wanted to get the opinion/feelings of others about this particular ticket. The general consensus seems to be that I am nuts, and if liking a certain politician because of his being brash/blunt with the opposing party makes me nuts then so be it. I'd rather hear short, brash and blunt than some windbag to take 20 minutes to go to hell, and I'm still lost and not clear on the directions when they are done.
Who would you suggest as woman President *AND* Vice President??

Man from Pickens
(1,713 posts)While I like Grayson a lot, let's face it - he tends to "go off" undiplomatically, and that's not a great trait to have in a national campaign.
He's an awesome back-bench bomb-thrower, but past that I am hesitant to commit.

(56,582 posts)Congratulations. You found the one VP pick that alienates more voters than having Sanders at the top of the ticket would in the first place. (Remember, among national Democrats, Sanders has the highest rate of "would never support" responses, at 18%.)
Ghost in the Machine
(14,912 posts)You think Grayson would alienate more people, as do others who have replied, but there are many who think like me and would be fired up about it. I like his brashness and "tell it like it is" demeanor.
Remember all the big talk by Nancy Pelosi and John Conyers before the 2006 elections?? If they won the House, they were going to investigate The Chimp for war crimes and for domestic spying and impeach him. Lo and behold, the Dems took the House and the next thing you know we have Pelosi stating "impeachment is off the table". John Conyers changed his tune also, even after having to hold meetings in the basement of the Capitol building because that's the only place the repugs would allow him to do so when they were in power.
I was saying back then that the Dems needed to start playing "smash-mouth politics" after the way the repugs swiftboated Kerry. I want SOMEONE in there who isn't afraid to stand up against the status quo and not only rock the boat of the "Establishment", but to capsize the damned boat! I'm tired of hearing about "wimpy Liberals" who don't get anything done. I, personally, think Grayson is just the man to do it. YMMV...

Ghost

Two would be impossible in the current climate.
