When bullets are flying, not even man’s best friend is safe.

Shannon West said he couldn’t believe it last week when his fiancee called to say their pit bull, Blue Magic, had been shot in the face. A stray bullet hit the dog about 8 p.m. May 26 while out in the backyard near 30th and Saratoga Streets.

“They were shooting somewhere down the street and it hit our dog,” West said. “I was driving down 30th Street and my fiancee called to tell me that she heard shots. She went outside, and there was blood everywhere.”

West’s 16-year-old son grabbed a towel to stanch the bleeding. West rushed Blue Magic to Animal Emergency Clinic at 9664 Mockingbird Drive. The veterinarian anesthetized Blue Magic and went to work, West said.

This is America. Everyone and everything is a victim of gun culture. Financially and/or physically.
