Twelve individual health insurance plans in Nebraska and 30 in Iowa are planning double-digit increases in premiums next year, with companies citing rising health care and drug costs, more use of health services and the phasing out of federal programs intended to control costs.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska proposed one plan with about a 16 percent increase and another with a 12 percent increase. Coventry Health proposed seven Nebraska plans with 10 percent-plus increases, the biggest 16 percent.
UnitedHealthCare proposed one Nebraska plan with a 10 percent increase, and Time Insurance had plans with increases of 32 percent and 28 percent.
The rate proposals were posted Monday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for individual policies that the insurance companies filed with state regulators.

(26,549 posts)They're asking for these increases, which means they're on the high end of what they can justify. The actual increases will be lower.
Yes, single payer would still be better. Let's remind Lieberman of that every day of the rest of his miserable life.
