How much you want to bet the right will scream "too much government regulation" over this?
The White House is ramping up its push to fight bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics.
Pharmaceutical companies, agricultural companies, and other groups are coming together for a forum at the White House on Tuesday to discuss ways to prevent the overuse of antibiotics in humans and animals, which fuels the rise of deadly bacteria resistant to medicine.
Coinciding with the event, President Obama will sign an executive order calling on the governments cafeterias to prioritize meat that has been raised with responsible antibiotic practices.
The FDA will also announce new updates to regulations aimed at ensuring that the use of antibiotics on farms is brought under veterinarians supervision. Part of the problem has been the use of antibiotics to make animals grow bigger, rather than to treat infections.

Will that sort of thing be okay for me to issue in regard to my kitchen?

(108,170 posts)I know Canada and Mexico had an issue with the U.S. labeling the country of origination per NAFTA.
Don't believe the use of antibiotics in feed lots is affected by that.

(562 posts)The biggest change is the "throw all the shit you can at the wall and see what sticks" approach to antibiotics in feed will go away.
Now, antibiotics in feed will need to be targeted to specific stages in life (weaning, moved to feedlot, etc.) when animals are most vulnerable to disease.
It's actually a quite well balanced approach to the issue that cuts down on antibiotic use without being being detrimental to animal welfare.
