(82,849 posts)How often does Tim Carney (or any other spokesperson for that matter) go on a program with a prior arrangement to talk about topics A, B and C, and then hijack the conversation to go somewhere else? Carney was clearly trying to avoid talking about the subjects he had agreed to go on to talk about, and Hall wasn't having any part of it. But I wonder how many times someone like Carney is successful in diverting the interview into a whole 'nother channel and the host just sits there?
If my observation of certain talking chuckleheads yields any clue, I'd say it happens every time a spokesperson comes on, talks over the host, and then hits all the points he wanted to while the host sits there mute, finally blathering some crapulous pleasantry when the time for the segment is up, and none of the previously-agreed topics ever got aired. You see that often enough, that it's astonishing to see Hall shut Carney down, and end the segment without letting him re-direct the conversation.

(8,053 posts)and you'll see just how successful Carney and others of his ilk are. It's almost like an unwritten agreement since frank luntz began coaching these dweebs on how to tackle show hosts and steer the interview in a direction favorable to the thug point of view. When they still won't give, talk about "liberal media conspiracies" and all such sorts of blather to stun the host into shutting up so that they can get luntz's talking points out.

(2,198 posts)what they are doing. Only pundits trying to do an honest job of finding out information instead of helping re-frame the issue will have the courage and intelligence to do what she did. She will probably get fired for it but it should help her land her own show somewhere. Oprah needs help.

He was NOT going to spin the conversation his way for propaganda purposes.
Pay attention, networks. This is how journalism is done.

(14,549 posts)When he said "bringing up" [the scissors attack] as if she tricked him or lied to him it set her off. And it gave her the opportunity to call him on the BS and say in effect 'you knew what this was going to be about but now you are whining, lying and name calling, good bye.'
I look for team Romney to continue to cry about the 'liberal media' whenever Romney gets caught in his lies and flip flops.

It looks like Tamron Hall would be the ideal host of such a show.

I had recently been thinking Tamron needs her own show and we should write MSNBC and let them know...that interview proved it. You go Tamron! You go girl!

(33,956 posts)Chuck Todd cares about directing the interview...I think he just gives them a platform to say what they want...and that is what is intended.

(1,185 posts)at least somewhat, or answer the questions, they won't come on the show and host could feel his job threatened? It's possible, that if truth and forthrightness were required, might cut down on those agreeing to be interviewed.

(24,634 posts)You interpreted that based on the use of "sister". As a "sister" myself, I don't see anything wrong if they did mention her race or the usage of "sister." There are not many Black newscasters on MSNBC. Tamron is one of three---I'm counting the girl that rarely fills in for Rachel's show. I remember when Mika wrote her book; she never mentioned Tamron as someone she even interviewed as part of the struggle of being a female newscaster. It's doubly worse when it's one of color. They rarely get real popularity. I'm glad she's getting some love now.

(24,634 posts)The man invited to come on the show decided to act very unprofessional and not bother to answer the question or even take it seriously. To the point he started attacking the style of reporting and actually the reporting from MSNBC. This is not the first time and each time they have done this in the past the MSNBC anchors allowed it to happen to effectively derail any and all substantiative talk. I didn't see it as unprofessional. Considering I saw reacting to an unprofessional guest.

(53,410 posts)See? When you get your own show you decide the format. That's how it works.
banana convention.
(7 posts)A Black version of those bleached-hair, painted bimbettes. A professional anchor would have been more concerned with keeping some decorum, rather than slapping down a guest like "Morton Downey Jr."
lunatica
(53,410 posts)Some people simply can't wait to blow their cover.
And so you stop making the same mistake again and again, she is not an anchor. She is a host of her show which is not the same thing, so it might serve you well to stop being ignorant of that. She has the right and the duty to shut someone up who breaches their agreement with her. A true professional holds others to their promises or shuts their mike down. The guest insulted her and MSNBC and then tried screaming over what she was saying. He deserved being cut off. A professional would know that.

(5,198 posts)--to call it out, and not allow their talking points to masquerade as answers to questions. We need a real dialogue in this country about real issues and the BS has to stop first before that can happen. What a breath of fresh air!!!!
