Clinton to hold first campaign rally in NYCBy Ben Kamisar
Hillary Clinton will hold the first major rally of her presidential campaign on June 13 in New York City.
She'll speak at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park in her adopted state, which she represented for eight years in the Senate, campaign officials told reporters.
Her speech will lay out her view of the challenges facing this country and her vision and ideas for moving the country forward, an official said.
Throughout her career, Hillary Clinton has been inspired by FDRs belief that America is stronger when we summon the work and talents of all Americans and has long admired Eleanor Roosevelt as a role model.

(31,239 posts)If that's the case, Bernie should have held his kickoff in Brooklyn, and Barack Obama should have gone back to Hawaii. NEWS ALERT: SHE LIVES IN NEW YORK NOW, but let's just keep that between us.

FDR was hated by wall street so much they plotted to overthrow him,and he led us out of depression through taxing rich and spending money on programs.

(15,480 posts)She should launch her campaign from the trading floor of the NYSE.
This park is relatively small, very enclosed tip of a small island - easy to fill and easy to keep all protestors out. They'll probably have ticketed admission. Take a look at it. It's closed to the public when "private events" are scheduled there.
http://www.fdrfourfreedomspark.org/
ON EDIT: Typical double-speak instructions/explanation, telling us it's ticketed but tickets are not required and ticket holders get expedited entry, but it's also first come, first serve.
Tickets are not required and do not guarantee admission due to space constraints, but every guest is encouraged to RSVP. All entry to the rally will be first-come, first-served.
If it's first come, first served, and "tickets are not required" why are RSVP-ers getting tickets for "expedited entry"?

(146,325 posts)She has many loyal supporters in her race for the White House. She'll also be drawing from the enormous population of NYC. There will be no mistake about the numbers of those who support her there.

(146,325 posts)that launch is an active supporter. I assume that of any event where a candidate shows up to make an announcement like that.
That certainly doesn't mean that only those who show up at such events are supporters. For example, I could not attend Bernie Sanders' event in Minneapolis due to a previously scheduled activity. I would have gone, otherwise, since I'm caucusing for him here on March 1, 2016. On the other hand, I'd probably attend a Hillary Clinton event, too, if I could, since I expect her to be the eventual nominee, and I'll certainly support her if that is the case.
The number of attendees at an event is interesting, but not a real indication of actual supporters. It all depends on where, when, and the population of the surrounding area. I'd expect any event in New York City to have a high attendance. Similarly, the 3000 or so people who showed up to see Sanders seems appropriate for the Twin Cities, MN. The metro area here has a population of over 3 million. It's not hard to turn out 3000 for an interesting event. Three times that number showed up for a dog walk here that supports an animal rescue organization. That event raised over $1 million. My wife and I were there with our dogs.
Turnout isn't necessarily in proportion to support, really. It's just interesting.

I remembered her being quoted as looking up to Eleanor Roosevelt. I went looking for an/the article.
This is what I found at the News-Journal, Parade Magazine, April, 1993: https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1901&dat=19930411&id=Vg4qAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ztMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2907,5302920&hl=en

(30,755 posts)understand reverse psychology. If they gripe about Hillary enough, a lot of people will begin to understand that they are doing this out of fear and blind partisanship. They will support her because they know she is capable of beating any republican. They will look at the clowns dissing her and see that she is much better than they are. And if they are smart, they will begin to notice how qualified she is.
Too bad more people aren't that smart to begin with.

These are two excellent candidates, along with O'Malley. They're not perfect, but they are better than anything on the right.

matt819
(10,749 posts)Not the same thing.
The Bernie posts were about the crowds he generated at various events. The posts I read didn't make any comparisons to Hillary events, past, present, or future.
In contrast, this OP basically says, if you think Bernie's crowds or big, you ain't seen nothing yet. That is what is pointless, but it looks like I'm going to have to just suck it up and read this kind of shit for the next 12 months or so.
