There is no way of knowing if they are accurate now. They could put out whatever they want.

Because nobody ever seems to come with facts to verify these theories. I think most pollsters try to be accurate as possible because that is how they make money. Pollsters come up with different results because they use different assumptions about the electorate. The problem is that the electorate never stays exactly the same as it was the election before.

May 2012

This is not possible. There' no way Obama can be winning women, blacks, latinos and youth...but still losing by 7% to Romney. That's horseshit. It doesn't pass a basic smell test.

Rasmussen is a Republican pollster and he lacks any credibility. The only people that will flog this poll are the folks at Faux Newz and Drudge Report.

A Gallup poll has Romney up by 3, according to the article. Two other polls have Obama up. But NOTHING should show Romney up at all.

Rasmussen polls are good fodder for comedy, useless for anything else.

"Currently, the baseline targets for the adult population are

35.8% Republicans
33.0% Democrats

Likely voter samples typically show a slightly larger advantage for the Republicans."

9. According to Nate Silver
Fri May 11, 2012, 02:21 PM
May 2012

Silver concluded that Rasmussen's polls were the least accurate of the major pollsters in 2010, having an average error of 5.8 points and a pro-Republican bias of 3.9 points according to Silver's model.[23] He singled out as an example the Hawaii Senate Race, in which Rasmussen showed incumbent Daniel Inouye only 13 points ahead, whereas in actuality he won by a 53% margin[24] – a difference of 40 points from Rasmussen's poll, or "the largest error ever recorded in a general election in FiveThirtyEight’s database, which includes all polls conducted since 1998".[23]

They haven't come out with a presidential poll in a swing state in about ten days the same period that Romney has been ahead. When they have done that in the past, they seem to contradict one another. The onther day, they did one on Massachusetts.

Fri May 11, 2012, 02:29 PM

That it is close blows me away. I have not been a huge fan of all that Obama hasn't done in the past 4 years, starting with allowing the tax cuts for the wealthy to stand, and not pushing single payer, but to even imagine Romney, or any Republican, as president, really and truly scares the hell out of me. So much so that even though I swore I would vote for Obama but not contribute, I am going to make as many contributions as I can afford to make before the election.

Plus, the tracking polls for Rasmussen and Gallup are terrible. They fluctuate like a roller coaster for no reason. Use the actual standard polls and not the daily tracking polls to get an accurate stance on the shape of the race.
