As only he can do it, Jon Stewart takes a look at the Republican Clown Car, in video clips, confirming he IS going to retire UNLESS .... Donald Trump decided to run! Lol! That entire segment is hilarious.
Talk about loons!
Then he goes to the Democratic Primary.
Using Corporate Media Clips with various talking heads slamming Bernie Sanders 'he's a SOCIALIST FOR CHRIST'S SAKE' or 'his hair', 'too old' 'he's loony' etc etc (paraphrasing here) he exposes the bias of the corporate media.
And then he invites us to just WATCH what it is about Sanders that is so loony.
He plays some clips of Bernie talking about Wall St, about Inequality, about Social Security and then explains WHY Bernie seems so strange.
And I believe he was serious at this point.
He says that we have become so accustomed to politicians who are so scripted, so insincere, so unauthentic etc, that when we see someone like Bernie, honest, authentic etc. HE looks like the one who is strange.
Bernie was the only candidate he spoke well of. For that segment he received a huge round of applause.

I think Bernie has impressed Stewart, as he does everyone who gets to know him.
Editing to add this video which begins where Stewart talks about Bernie, provided by DUer BrotherIvan
Great comments under that video also on Utube!
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)It is the perfect video to share with friends. A redditor edited it down to just the Democratic section
But the clip of HRC doesn't show the end of her point which is "her hair won't turn white in the White House." So I guess that's started.

(62,325 posts)use his sanity to mock the rest of them.
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)It's not the Southern accent, it's the comment. It's 2008 all over again.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)authentic, right up to his hair! Not managed, not scripted, no handlers, just speaking plainly and THAT is what makes him 'different'.
I get the impression that Stewart, like many comedians, is speaking seriously about the phoniness of our system and now has someone to point to to highlight just how phony it is.
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)He should come out on that side because that is to the heart of what he has been speaking about the whole time: the acting, the falseness, the corruption. And of course the madness of the Republicans but it seems only an act of god can fix them.
He can keep making fun of Sanders being honest and unscripted all her wants, even more. Because that is the perfect way to talk to all of us who are jaded and cynical. And we are legion.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)he does.
Wish he wasn't leaving though, the show will never be the same without him.
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)But I hope he walks the walk and does some appearances for Bernie. Especially now that he is unencumbered by a contract. Mark Ruffalo too whose big issue is fracking. There are a number of people who need to get on board and work for the guy.

(9,126 posts)It would be a highly watched episode that's for sure. I'm sure they will do a tribute of the show though. Fingers crossed.

(62,325 posts)by giving him some free advertising. I'm keeping my fingers crossed also!
Btw, I just included your shortened version of the show in the OP, with attribution to you of course for providing it.
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)I always poke over there to see what's up. The Sanders forum is a bit over-moderated for me, so I just see what's up. It's interesting to see how the enthusiasm goes and they are better than DU with social media sharing.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)and he seems to be a favorite there also.
The hill is steep. Everyone needs to be on board working.

(38,613 posts)The new host is supposed to take over late September.
It already seems like Jon is getting a bit more... something, I'm not sure what. But I get the sense that he feels he can get away with being more "himself" if that makes sense.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)responsible imo, for informing a whole generation of some facts they weren't getting on the Corporate media. I wonder what his plans are? He is so effective at getting points across, I can't imagine him just retiring and not feeling compelled to stay involved in what is going on in this country.

(51,076 posts)no doubt in my mind on this one.
once I became familiar with Obama I said the same about him and sure enough here he is.
Bernie Sanders is exactly the tonic that this sick nation needs right now.
LuvNewcastle
(16,856 posts)I think that when people see what a genuine man he is, they're going to be flabbergasted. I can't think of a better person for the job. He's the best candidate I've ever seen.
madokie
(51,076 posts)and I've been paying attention a long long time. Actually since Jack Kennedy and dick nixon. I wrote Jack Kennedy because back in the campaign he went by Jack, not John. I remember that well. oh there was times where he was referred to as John but mostly he was referred to as Jack.
LuvNewcastle
(16,856 posts)Kennedy was killed. It was before my time (I was born in 1969), but I've heard a lot about it from older people. It seems to me that the assassination damaged America's collective psyche. Having Bernie as President would be like restoring some of what America lost then. He's a real person with good intentions. That is a precious thing nowadays.
madokie
(51,076 posts)just a good O affable man with a heart of gold.
I really like Bernie Sanders and the more I read about him the more that is so.
I'd love to see a woman President but I'm not going to just vote based on that alone and when I look at the issues I'm for Bernie all the way. He is one of us no doubt about that.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)Then she could run when Bernie's two terms are finished?
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)on every subject, who answers questions directly, who doesn't seem to need 'prepared questions' because his positions are so consistent he has no fear of making any 'false steps'. He presents himself as who he is, and if anyone doesn't like it, it isn't his problem.
arcane1
(38,613 posts)So we never have to see him twist to make his "positions" palatable to every single person. Some won't like his ideas and that's ok. Hopefully they're outnumbered
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)he gave this a lot of thought before he decided to run. I think he understands that Hillary will get most of the partisan Dem vote, but he is looking at the Independent vote AND the non voters, which we have not seen polls on yet.
Eg, Dems and Repubs alike, have been losing registered members. Dems now only at 32%, Repubs at 29%.
While the registered Indy vote has been growing, now at between 42% and 46%, the largest in a very long time according to Gallup.
And those are disaffected Dems and Repubs, real Indies some Libertarians etc.
The status quo candidate is not going to get that vote. That is why they are now Independent.
He is also reaching non voters.
No one can win in either party with just 'most' of the base vote.
I think Bernie calculated all this and isn't really worried about the polls that show only registered Dems. And even there his support is growing.
I am confident that in a fair election, he CAN win this election.
arcane1
(38,613 posts)And he makes a very important point about them: when they vote, we win, every time.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)She hasn't voted in years, but I have been telling her about Bernie and now she is as excited about him as I am. However she hadn't said anything about voting, so I asked her would someone like Bernie cause her to register just this one time, to help get him elected. She said 'where do I go to register'!
I didn't want to push her, but I was thrilled when she asked.
So one non voter for Bernie. Now I have to find a few others.
Bernie is right, I believe that happened in 2008.
arcane1
(38,613 posts)In fact, I think we're going to see non-voters who think they're conservative, registering to vote because of something they heard Sanders say.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)Yes, I think so too, especially if it becomes a goal of the campaign. And he does have crossover appeal.
Every parent eg, Repub, Dem, wants to be able to send their children to college without putting them in debt for decades. This is a huge issue for people across the political spectrum.
And Wall St bailouts, many Repubs lost their homes also.
So yes, I've already seen some people say 'I'm a repub, but this guy is interesting'.
madokie
(51,076 posts)Maybe even a great one at that
He has my attention thats for sure

(41,171 posts)and grands generations- straight talk, wit, humor, sincerity, populist, genuine, nothing slick. Can't get enough of him! in a good way. And as Thom Hartmann said recently, he regards Bernie as a statesman. So very true.
I remember JFK some, he was wonderful. Mom took our older brother to see LBJ. I worked with people older who were brought to DC by FDR, JFK and LBJ. Amazing stories. ~ Jon Stewart gave a commencement at W&M, his alum and mine. He probably hated it, that's ok-

(14,255 posts)I felt that Stewart was mocking Bernie, and I wasn't in the mood for that. Thanks for this!
Of course, in some quarters this will be reduced to "Jon Stewart says Bernie is loony!"
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)show, I got the feeling that after watching the real loons on the Republican side and listening to the hypocritical media, he decided to do this to show how programmed we are to the corruption in our politics to the point where, when an actual sane, common sense politician like Bernie comes along, we think HE is the loon.
I thought he did a very good of showing Bernie to be the ONLY normal person in the race.

(62,325 posts)him then.
I think, like a lot of people, he's been paying a lot more attention to Bernie Sanders, or maybe someone suggested he really listen to him, and you may be right, he wanted to make up for the previous piece.
I wish he would reconsider resigning, but that would mean we have to tolerate 'the Donald' for the next year or so.
Someone in this thread suggested he would make an excellent Press Secretary for Bernie.
THAT would make WH Press Conferences the most popular events they have ever been! Lol.
I have a feeling he would make minced meat out of the WH Press corps and have fun doing it.
arcane1
(38,613 posts)I guaran-damn-tee you the others are practicing how not to sound scripted, specifically because they'll be in direct comparison to him.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)Stewart did a good job of comparing the scripted candidates to an actual real person. So yes, I'm sure their campaigns are busy scripting their next public statements so they don't 'look' scripted! Lol!
Octafish
(55,745 posts)Been a long time since anyone talked about the Banksters of Wall Street, about Inequality, about Social Security, about NSA spying, about War Mongers. Of course that seems so strange.
Thank you for the heads-up, sabrina 1! Like Bernie, I know you're for real.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)think Stewart did a great job of showing up all of them, the media, the scripted politicians and then contrasted them with Bernie, his messy hair and all, and how shallow the entire political system really is.
When he looked at the screen after Bernie's clips talking like a real person, he was priceless, imo. 'whata, whata , what a RATIONAL, left of center politician'.
But you have to watch it.
Anyhow, thanks for your comment, Octafish, always appreciate your contributions.

(13,218 posts)I believe you are correct, whether he meant to be or not. Bernie's most distinguished feature is his authenticity, a definite point in his favor. None of his presentations are "stage" presentations. None are "acts". This does of course make him one odd duck. Which is yet another point in his favor.

(7,358 posts)I think the fact that Bernie doesn't care about his messed upt hair, is commendable. Does anyone remember B.Clinton's $200 dollar hair cuts? Of course there was John Edwards $400-$1250 dollar hair cuts. Is the country so narcissistic that appearance is everything? To hear Jon Stewart go after his hair was unbecoming. I still think he's batting for Hillary.

sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)until recently, perhaps he has been hearing from people who got him to pay more attention and now that Bernie's popularity is soaring, going from a complete unknown (except to people like us) to an almost overnight success (on Social Media where it really counts, no one of any consequence watches the Corporate Media, discredited as they are, for actual news anymore) more and more people are going to be paying attention.
Eg, he's the second most popular candidate on FB, beats ALL of the Repub crowd in polls, trending on Twitter, hugely popular on most Dem sites, and every event he's held this past week has been filled beyond capacity.
His poll numbers are going up every month, so he's now a force to contend with.
But I can't agree he supports Hillary, probably would over any Repub, he's been slamming her pretty much for a while now.
His 'hair' joke, was imo, to show the shallowness of the Media puppets.
