Ellen Gives Obama A Standing Ovation For Endorsing Marriage Equality

Ellen Gives Obama A Standing Ovation For Endorsing Marriage Equality | Ellen DeGeneres applauded President Obama’s endorsement of marriage equality with a standing ovation during her daytime talk show on Wednesday. “What an amazing day for our country. President Obama just came out in support of same-sex marriage,” DeGeneres, who is married to her partner Portia de Rossi, announced. She added: “Wow! Wow! There have been moments in history when someone has had the courage to stand up for what they believe in and that one action changes everything. And I hope this is one of those times.” “Mr. President, to you I say, thank you, very very much. Thank you!” Watch it:

And the best sense of humor and funniest facial expressions I've ever seen. There's nothing I like more than watching her face change on her old TV show when something funny happens. Always priceless.

One of my RW sisters, married to a HUGE homophobe (okay she's a homophobe too) loves Ellen. Anyway, she waits for him to leave the house and watches Ellen. She even records the shows since he doesn't know how to work it and doesn't know, and watches at all times of day when he's gone.

She's loved her ever since that first Ellen show long ago. She and I both still giggle over old episodes. So, I'm hoping that Ellen's laughter and kind spirit will win the day eventually. Who can listen to her and look at that face and not be won over, I ask. That's always been the sister who's been the most reasonable. Maybe I'm hoping for nothing. But you never know.

When they get in that voting booth and the voices of condemnation they heard as a child at church, or wherever get louder, they vote for discrimination. When they see that they might lose the support of their homophobic spouse, they will vote to discriminate. Or, if they select one class in their mind of human beings as exempt from their nightmare, they find another to go after.

I've seen this with a Teabag relation, who seemed sane until she became a regular Fox and Beck viewer. Then things changed.

Weird thing about her falling for it, she's in marketing. She knows about persuasion and getting people to buy stuff. She refuses because of the 'bona fides' of these people, and the fact that they have a lot more money than she does, to doubt their words, despite her schooling.

And of course it's on every day. Oh, she says she's no homophobe, but she hates so many people now, wants to convince others she's right, selling them, breaking off with them if they don't agree, I don't believe her. If she thinks that gays are going to vote for Obama, she'll vote against them, they might be a problem!

Homophobic behavior is not different than these other hatreds. It all comes from the same root.

What I've found, too, is that if you talk about specific people having trouble, for instance, they can have a heart. But as soon as it's a political question all heart goes out the window. As if real people aren't involved. It's really, really strange.

Like with Ellen, my sister can see a real human being, one she would probably like. But if it came down to a vote on any question regarding homosexuality she wouldn't think about Ellen at all. She'd just think Republican Party talking points. All heart and humanity gone.

It seems a shame, though, that she is in a marriage in which she doesn't feel free to watch a show like Ellen that she really enjoys. When my ex went totally RW/Limbaugh/Fox News, he would go ballistic over me watching left-leaning TV programs. Good luck to her, and I hope Ellen's personality and charm will help to win her over.

I try to bring up specific people or families, so they can relate what we're talking about to real live human beings. It seems to make more of a difference that way. Even with immigrants

Ellen has the deadpan down pat. It is, on my opinion, one of her funniest bits.
