What would marijuana laws be like if you were writing the laws?

1. Make import/export illegal without a treaty with the other country. That way we can't be accused of subverting the youth (yeah, I know) of another country.

2. State by state drugs laws. If you don't want mj in Georgia, go ahead. If you want medical mj only, cool. Full legalization (ahem, California) go for it. State licensing of growers, retailers.

3. No federal crime of interstate transport.

Federalism, man.

4. Perhaps federal laws against adulteration like in any other food product.

Post your own regulatory regime. I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

Regulate what it can contain in delivery form

Regulate the age of who can buy it

Regulate where it can be smoked - don't want EMS any more than ETS in public places

Tax the living crap out of it

Regulate its over-use via impairment laws

Done.

...like with alcohol?

Anything over 0.08 is "legally drunk." Should there be a similar measurement for cannabis consumption?

Just thought it might help win "support" from certain industries, like insurance and liquor as well governments (i.e., city, county, and state who could impose "fees" and "penalties').

Might also make it more attractive to the general voter, who might be thinking about "responsible consumption."

Just some thoughts...

The restrictions on MJ should be the same as those on pencil erasers.

If one wants to make sale to and possession by minors illegal that's probably unavoidable, though.

Pretty much the same as all other non-processed, wholly organic & natural plants (e.g., lettuce or petunias)-- grow it, mow it, garden it, cook it, -- whatever.

In other words-- no regulation. (I'm a flaming optimist, and more often than not, believe the best that people can do is what all people willl try to do)

Model it like CO. Sell it in dispensaries & allow people to grow their own. Limit the number of plants they can grow. Works in CO.

Edibles, btw, are fantastic! The variety & quality they are coming out with is amazing!
