If I am a small business owner and I want to sell my products overseas, how do I get in on this TPP deal??
Does it make more sense to make it here and pay to ship it to markets over there or to make it over there with cheaper labor and ship it back here? And if there is still a demand for my products here, for example Apple computers, would not it be to my advantage to make the computers there and ship them back here according to the demand?
Under no circumstances can I envision a business staying in America and shipping the products to China or Malaysia or Vietnam? It doesn't make sense.
Under almost every scenario, I can only envision jobs closing down or leaving America?
And just what is a "level playing field"? Is that when the wages of America are equal to the wages over seas? That is the only scenario I can see where it might be cost effective to manufacture products in this country.
Under no circumstances does this trade bill add up as a good deal for American workers. Can someone give some examples where it would benefit American workers?

(31,849 posts)the wages and environmental protections make it so that it is no longer significantly cheaper to make those goods in Malaysia or Vietnam?
Enter TPP (see: USTR's Negotiating Objectives)

(111,103 posts)There would be no incentive to leave this country. But I would not hold my breath for those things to happen. Fifty-six cents per hour to seven dollars an hour?

(146,317 posts)I had customers in China. Not many, but my business was small. I sold them things not available in China. I bought things from China that weren't available here, too, and then sold them here. Supply and demand.
Small businesses can do that. Big businesses not so easily. You have to have products that are in demand, but not available easily or cheaply where you sell them. If you know what they don't have and can supply it...
It's really not a small business trade deal.
