Christie, Conservative Radio Host In Yelling Match Over Social Security

Conservative radio host Howie Carr on Thursday grilled New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on his proposed cuts to the social security program, and the debate quickly devolved into a shouting match.

Carr began the interview by telling Christie that he's concerned about "illegal aliens" getting social security benefits. Christie assured Carr that he would roll back President Obama's executive actions on immigration if he were elected president.

The two then launched into a heated debate over Christie's proposal, which would reduce or eliminate Social Security benefits for individuals who exceed a certain threshold of retirement income. Christie also proposed raising the retirement age.

Carr lamented that when he began paying into the Social Security system, the rules were different.

"I'm older than you are. I'm 63. I started paying into this program when Lyndon Johnson was president, right? Nobody said anything about means-testing," Carr told Christie, according to an audio clip highlighted by Business Insider. "You're proposing what amounts to a bait-and-switch, aren't you? I mean, what's the difference between this and Bernie Madoff?"

1. This is why even without Bridgegate he was never a threat. Americans don't want an angry person

to be their President. Even if they are angry about the things the electorate are angry about. This has been a repeating pattern in American Presidential election history.

Social Security isn't welfare and it's not an investment plan. It's insurance.

Think about getting a call from your car insurance company, "We have discovered that you have enough in your savings account to buy a used car, so we won't be paying anything for your recently totaled new car." Or perhaps, "I am so sorry for your loss, Mrs. Thing, but we see that Mr. Thing invested enough money to pay for his funeral so there will be no death benefits." Maybe "You have enough equity in your home to cover your recent hospitalization and surgery so we suggest you pursue a HELOC before contacting us" from your health insurance provider will provide a clue.

The mind boggles over the precedent, if not the unfairness of it all.

effects him, he cares.

I bet he would gladly make sure non documented workers could pay in but not get anything back, among other things

6. Undocumented workers do pay in

under made up SSNs that might or might not belong to someone else. You can be sure they'll never apply for their benefits because--hey!--they're undocumented and would be sent home if they tried to.

That's what morons like Chris Crisco and good ole Howie never get. Undocumented workers fly under the radar and that means never applying for anything.

Oh, they can get driver's licenses here in NM. However, that's about it.

You started paying into Medicare when LBJ was President. Social Security started in the 1930's. And it was kept our parents and grandparents going.
