FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A conservative mothers group is attacking JCPenney for its new Mother's Day ad that features a lesbian couple with their two daughters.
The group One Million Moms is calling for a boycott of the retailer. They claim the company is quote taking sides in an ongoing cultural war.
Change.org has a petition to support JC Penney here:

(475 posts)But these people really get on my nerves with all of their stupidity involving stores, advertisements, and the like.
I wish they would just go away.

(82,849 posts)Freedom of speech and the freedom to advocate for your point of view is the indispensable Right in the Constitution. I fully support their right to advocate for their point of view, and I suspect they won't have the slightest influence with JC Penney, because despite their grandiose self-bestowed title, I sincerely doubt that One Million Moms represents much beyond their paid mouthpieces, fleecing the gullible and desperately trying to stir up hatred and division.

(19,736 posts)It looks like three generations of a family with a random aunt thrown in. Did JCP specifically say that's what this is supposed to be? Also, who cares if it is same sex couples. They're part of their demographic. Are these same idiot moms pissed when the ad is in Spanish and the target audience is a Latino family? They got egg on their face when they got angry at Ellen for being the spokesperson, what makes them think they're going to fair much better getting angry about this? They're idiots. So some kids have two moms. Get over it. How does that affect your life in anyway? Just shut up. If you're so worried about your kid getting exposed to something, lock them in the basement if you're so scared to have to explain something to your kid because that's the only way to keep them "safe" from ideals different than your own. A JCP ad is not going to make your kid gay. If your kid is gay, he was gay from the beginning. Why are people so naive and ridiculous? I just really don't get it!

(47,992 posts)Those are probably virtual "moms". Digits are easily flipped. & Even if there are a million whatever they are, minorities should not be allowed to vote out the rights of others.

I'll not only sign the petition, but I'll write another letter to Penney supporting them.

(19,379 posts)It just looks like family or friends.
How disturbed and irrational are these people that they immediately go to gay when seeing something like this?
And just to be clear, when I said specific lesbian reference, I meant something along the lines of a passionate kiss, etc., and for the record, it would not bother me if it was. They use hetero models kissing in ads, why not gay?

(95,337 posts)Because clearly their numbers don't even come close to a million. It's just an organization of a few hundred miserable women who probably have shitty homelife with kids & husbands who ignore them so they think they somehow have the right to make others miserable too.

(95,337 posts)or are these dimwitted 'moms' just assuming that 2 grown women in a clothing store ad must mean they are lesbians.
PatSeg
(47,608 posts)I would have just thought they were sisters or friends, though I probably wouldn't have thought about it at all, because I'm not looking for anything.
Edit to add: The two on the far right look like mother and daughter, a typical Mother's Day type ad showing several generations.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)that still doesn't mean they are a lesbian couple. Honestly that photo could be viewed many ways. It could be sisters hanging out together, Maybe one of the women is the grandmother and it's her daughters and granddaughters. Maybe it's 3 friends hanging out. I'm a straight woman but I have been known to hug my female friends.
The photo is what you make of it. I probably would have never thought 'lesbian couple' of someone hadn't said that's what it was. I would have thought a bunch of women hanging out and personally not given a rat's ass what their sexual relationships might be.
PatSeg
(47,608 posts)after looking at the picture again. It looks like a grandmother and mother on the right, which is something we see in ads every year around Mother's Day.

(47,608 posts)Didn't they learn anything the last time they called for a boycott on JCPenney? All they did was bring a lot of favorable publicity to Penneys and Ellen Degeneres as well. I think Penneys is probably loving these "moms".

(47,608 posts)when they complained about Penneys advertising on Ellen Degeneres was a series of expensive ads featuring Ellen Degeneres! I think "Moms" is really pissed now.

This latest attack is ridiculous.

I wonder who the "Moms" think watches Ellen's show. Its a very popular daytime program.
