DEWITT, Neb. – Wendy Sullivan woke up about 3:30 a.m. Thursday for her shift at Crete Manor. It was no longer raining, but York Avenue in front of her house was filled with water.

“My street sometimes floods,” she said. “It didn't go down this time. It kept getting higher.”

About 6 a.m. She called ex-husband Mark Sullivan, who lives in Beatrice. He drove up with a canoe to rescue the family.

“I packed the stuff for the kids to stay in his place. He came and got us. We pulled everything off the floor of the house just in case.”
