That sign should silence the Tea-Partiers, but after some confusion they of course would go back to parroting slogans they don't even understand.

7. Welfare? Not Me!

I think the whole thing is nicely summarized by Cliven Bundy, the guy who inspired an armed insurrection against the federal government to preserve his welfare handouts. These people hold court in the supermarket parking lot where we live, explaining to everyone how the constitution says it's our right to get everything for nothing, those of us who are Real Americans. And we could do it, except for illegal immigrants, and welfare moms, and liberal social programs that steal all the tax money that should be going to patriotic heroes like Cliven Bundy.

first of all, social security and medicare are not handouts or govt charity. Citizens actually pay into these programs throughout their lives and collect when its time. Public schools also are paid with mostly property taxes which everyone even renters pay. These things are not charity. Roads high way etc etc are also paid with gas taxes and other taxes.

So unless you have plans of allowing these people to opt out of paying those taxes, please don't ask them not to take it. They pay for it, they are entitled to collect on it.

Do you want people paying for a service and not receiving what they pay for? or do you love letting these people skip paying taxes? cos you know its only going to make things more expensive for those of us who still pay taxes. You know, economy of scale and what not.

This is a graphic one makes if they think social security and medicare are charity program and taxes do not pay for most govt services like roads and war.

of all of these programs. Has nothing to do with rather we should or should not get them. Has to do with the Rs who want to get rid of them.

Let me make an analogy for you. Imagine a cable TV customer complaining that he has to pay for MTV as part of his TV package, he is complaining everyday writing to the cable company asking the cable company that he doesn't want the channel. While he is complaining, he is still watching Teen moms on MTV and enjoying it. That is sorta like what the tea partiers are doing with govt services, they like some but not all and that is why they are asking for smaller govt and not no government

Also, even if they want SS and medicare gone which the vast majority don't, they would still have to receive the portion they paid for and so you can't ask them to stop receiving from a program they've already paid for. But then again. tea partiers do not hate medicare and social security, they maybe asking for other programs to be cut but they absolutely love the programs the graphic selected (check the polls).

This is what makes the graphic bad.

If they did, they wouldn't need you to be an advocate for them. And, a poster like this is needed to get to people who haven't thought through their position. If you actually have been listening to these 2 dimensional dolts for the last decade, you would know that the positions they take are far more extreme than the smoothed out version you're presenting.
