Federal appeals court ruled Metadata collection illegal.

On Thursday, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals held that the National Security Agency's bulk collection of telephone metadata is illegal. The program, a three-judge panel unanimously declared, "exceeds the scope of what Congress has authorized" with regard to the surveillance of American citizens. Although the court declined to decide whether the program also violates the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution, it strongly implied that it does.

Due to this spying, I have been told many times that we do. So it turns out we have courts that can overturn an unconstitutional act! What do you know. Looks like the executive is not all powerful after all.
