Georgia Sheriff allegedly shoots woman in model home, refuses to explain

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators are hoping to get more answers Monday a day after a sheriff is accused of shooting a woman.
Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill shot and critically injured the woman inside a model home Sunday night, according to police. But when officers arrived at the Atlanta-area subdivision, Hill declined to provide any information on what happened.

“He refused to cooperate and give any statement,” Sgt. Brian Doan with Gwinnett police said.

The woman, who worked inside the model home, was shot in the abdomen and taken to an area hospital, according to police. Her name was not released.

“She’s not able to give any information due to her condition,” Doan said.

Officers were called to the home on a report of an accidental shooting, according to police. Hill was released from the scene while the investigation continued late Sunday. Officers planned to execute a search warrant at the home, Doan said.

1. For some reason, it has crossed my mind that the police may start just refusing to explain

themselves, about anything. Not like much of anything happens to them, anyway.

3. Sounds like a domestic dispute. The home is out of the sheriff's jurisdiction.

In any event, I think the sheriff is in deep trouble.

From the linked article:

In the fall of 2013, Hill was acquitted of racketeering charges related to his use of a county-issued credit card.

During the final week of his first term, Hill filed for bankruptcy, due partly to the amount of money he owed in damages for lawsuits against him. On his first day in office in 2005, Hill fired 27 deputies, who later sued for wrongful termination. They won their jobs back and settled for $7 million, which was paid by the county.

Does anyone else see a pattern here?

Also from the article:

“When you’re an active and sitting sheriff, there are things that have to be done before you can be charged with a crime,” Doan said.

Yah, "things" like get some bogus story straight, make sure this woman (if she survives the critical gunshot wound) keeps her trap shut, or else, etc.

7. There is no such thing as an accidental shooting.

Either the shooting was intended, or it was due to neglect of established safety rules. There's really no middle ground when handling firearms.

Hill was released from the scene while the investigation continued late Sunday.
They let him go? If a black man shot and critically injured a woman inside a model home, do you suppose they'd let him go simply because he refused to cooperate?

Sure! Why not?!?
