(12,875 posts)Conservative "Christians" ignore a multitude of sins in the bible, and just happen to focus on something that reinforces to their bigotry.

(6,604 posts)Not to state the obvious, but I would add that those Nazi sympathizers undoubtedly call themselves christians.

(90,793 posts)I had a friend, since moved away, who was a County sheriff and unofficial interpreter of neopagan and cult matters to the department. He was a member of the Asatru, and his group strongly repudiated any hint of Nazi sympathizers. Thus, you can see there is a split in the U.S. among people who identify with this religion, but there is definitely a branch that is neonazi affiliated.

(12,151 posts)Unlike a hospital, a business like a pizza shop can already refuse service to anyone if it's not on the basis of a protected class, and sexual orientation is not a protected class for all purposes in all states as of yet.
Nazism, I'm guessing, is not going to be a protected class anytime in the near future. You can still go ahead and refuse to make that swastika wedding cake order if you want.
What the RFRAs are trying to do is prevent states from making future laws protecting anyone FROM discrimination, if that discrimination is based on "sincere religious belief." Which basically means LGBT people. And presumably women as well, given the federal RFRA was the basis for the Hobby Lobby ruling saying employers who think birth control is abortion, and don't like abortion, can tailor employee's health insurance to not cover it.
These are essentially anti-anti-discrimination laws designed to allow "religious exemptions" to equal treatment. It worked in Hobby Lobby, so now the attempt is to pre-empt government protection of anyone, anywhere, if someone believes their god told them to hate that person.
So the pizza people were kind of extra stupid in that they were already allowed to quietly discriminate against gay people, but just felt they had to let everyone know they were for a new law making sure they could keep doing it forever.
(Let's hope the religious people are all wrong, because if they're not, we're all going to Hell already).
