Latest updates from the Freddie Gray case in Baltimore Live
Freddie Gray, 25, died on April 19 — a week after he was injured while being arrested by Baltimore police. Video of the arrest surfaced, protests have broken out and an investigation into his death is under way. Follow Baltimore Sun's live coverage of the protests and the latest developments in the case.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS FROM SATURDAY'S PROTESTS (9:45 PM)

Twelve arrests have been made in the protests, according to Police Commissioner Anthony Batts.

The Orioles posted the following message on the Camden Yards scoreboard: "Due to an ongoing public safety issue, the Mayor of Baltimore City & the BCPD have asked all fans to remain inside the ballpark until further notice. Thank you."

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was scheduled to hold a news conference at 9:30 p.m. at City Hall. Rawlings-Blake hasn’t issued a full statement about the evening’s developments, but offered brief comments over Twitter: “Thx 2 those who have worked to press for peace during these protests. Concerned about the violence and those who want to destroy our city.”

Saturday's protest was the largest of the daily gatherings in Baltimore in the week since Freddie Gray died. Some participants came from as far as Ferguson, Mo. The crowd — estimated at 1,200 by the Fire Department — remained mostly peaceful from about noon until about 6:30 p.m., near the time the Orioles game was set to begin.

Gov. Larry Hogan also hasn’t issue remarks. But his staff said he is skipping tonight's White House correspondents' dinner to monitor the situation.

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin said, “As our community watches what was a meaningful and justified protest descend into an ugly scene we have seen all too often across the nation, I make an earnest appeal for peace in Baltimore.”

The Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police tweeted: "The patience and strength of character that our men & women are showing tonight is amazing. They are the best of the best and we are proud!" - Baltimore Sun Staff
