http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/04/23/round-rock-texas-cop-viviana-keith/Keiths six-year-old daughter was also present at the time she was knocked unconscious. Viviana Garcia told KVUE that the little girl was screaming, Mommy, mommy. Garcia said she and other witnesses just rushed over to comfort the child, not knowing if her mother was dead or alive.
If the actions of officer Ben Johnson arent enough to make your blood boil, upon viewing the video of the incident, Round Rock police chief Allen Banks defended the actions of the officer. He said he sees nothing wrong in the video, and claims that this officers conduct is professional and appropriate....
Not a single day goes by when we dont read about a new incident of police abuse, brutality or misconduct. From the death of Michael Brown to the death of Freddie Gray, across the country minorities are being killed by police at alarming rate. Women are brutalized and violated by the people sworn to protect and uphold the law. The mentally impaired and mentally ill are routinely victimized by a system that is clearly out of control. These are not the actions of good cops doing their jobs. These are the actions of deranged psychopaths, who hide behind a badge, when they should be behind bars.

(10,252 posts)I'd like to if these super aggressive cops are on steroids. I'll bet many are.
libdem4life
(13,877 posts)lately, once they are dead or incapacitated, no one looks terribly concerned. But yet they kill because they "fear for their lives". Now it's the public who has the fear. I still want to hope that the cell phones will ultimately get them. People are just realizing their power...not sure I'd own up to it, however.

(9,214 posts)I think it's time to update the procedure manual. Why is this cop not calling for backup? Isn't that standard procedure with an unruly arrestee? Probably wanted all the fun for himself.
Apparently there are not enough points for body slamming a six year old girl or she would have been down too.

(53,410 posts)Cops didn't just start doing these things when smart phones were invented. If anything we're probably seeing 'less' of this type of behavior than normal, just because there's no way a cop can tell if there's someone filming him/her.

Meh, her going unconscious was more of an accident than malice.

(78,249 posts)Could this not have been done without the body slam?!
aikoaiko
(34,183 posts)She kind f went from tense to rag doll relaxed when he flipped her over. Like I said it seemed more like an accident that would happen when trying to control a resistant drunk.
Comrade Grumpy
(13,184 posts)The full-force throw to the ground seems increasingly common. It's not necessary; just sheer thuggish brutality.
"Resisting arrest." She moved her arm.
If you have no problem with what happened, I can only wish you get to experience the same.

(34,183 posts)If I were drunk with my kid and the. Had the nerve to trash talk the cop while resisting arrest, I'd deserve to be thrown to the ground.

(9,474 posts)He body slammed her onto the pavement. BIG difference.
My dad was the Chief of Police in my hometown, and he would have fired that officer on the spot. He probably would also have arrested him for assualt and battery of a high and aggrevated nature.
I'm a retired R.N.(female) and could have restrained that woman without harming her. I did it many times with drunks and mentally ill patients.
Her being drunk and mouthy doesn't give him the right to do bodily harm. He could have killed her or caused permanent brain damage.
The fact that you don't see anything wrong with this speaks volumns.

Flipping her to the ground was not unreasonable and I think her head hitting the pavement was an accident.
Pooka Fey
(3,496 posts)your response to this video can accurately be identified as justifying ridiculously unnecessary violence and lying to obscure and minimize the damage, which are sadistic behaviors.
Here is how police in civilized countries handle drunks:

On edit: the Texas cop, a man, threw a WOMAN down so hard that he knocked her out, she could have DIED from hitting her head on the pavement or suffered traumatic brain injury - thus ending up disabled for life. You are excusing criminal violence by a public servant against a drunk woman with a kid by her side. There is no excuse.
Sunlei
(22,651 posts)side was already black with damage.
not even to mention the damage to knees, elbows. hip bones, facial bones.
Pooka Fey
(3,496 posts)which will scar them both. Being drunk in public with your kid means this woman needed help, that society should send urgent help to that family. Not almost kill her in front of her kid.
This society is in full breakdown mode.

(65,477 posts)body slam to pavement could cause serious injury. Cops are not supposed to go from 0 to 100 in nonviolent situations. There was NO reason for a violent body slam. His use of that maneuver in those circumstances shows a "depraved indifference to human life."
Do you think body slamming or otherwise subduing your wife and children is 'called for' when the husband gets pissed off at their mouthing off or resisting him?
That's a rhetorical question. I'm truly not interested in any further logical or reasonable argument from you on how cops 'should' treat obviously harmless people who don't submit immediately.

(53,410 posts)Justifying brutality because it comes from a cop is simply justifying brutality no matter who dispenses it. After all she was drunk, and we all know drunks are life-threatening don't we. Especially when they're really drunk.

(3,496 posts)There needs to be a Marshall Plan.
Look at how the Danes and Swedes deal with drunk disruptive people. They remain polite, they address them correctly, and they handle the situation so that nobody gets hurt. These videos have been posted several times so I won't re-post. Only in the USA are cops so vicious and violent, because American cops know that nothing can stop them.
Except the government, which needs to step up and address this issue.

(373 posts)Police are not acting in a vaccum. They are getting away with their increasing violent actions because the politicians, we elect do not represent the people but the elites that bankroll their campaigns and get them into office. What more responsive cops? elect more responsive public officals.
