Funny thing, I was just reading the thread about "The Far Left..."

I was kicked off a true far-left message board.

Yeah, this board was Maoist and even Stalinist!

This board even had nothing but glowing praise for North Korea.

I got kicked off when I had the nerve to bring up Stalin's purges and slaughters, and Mao's wacko "Great Leap Forward" and "Cultural Revolution."

Far-leftists are as intolerant as Far-Righties, imo. I avoid their extreme positions like the plague.

than to equate Mao or Stalin to leftists. That's not only a Republican meme, but a McCarthyite one.

FAR-leftists, the same way Hitler was on the far-right.

The RW'ers try to call Hitler a "lefty" since he was so rotten, and they don't want him associated with them.

A dictator is a dictator, whether they are on the left or right.

Neither side has a monopoly on "good" or "evil."

with those of another (Liberal - Conservative).

You are pointing out that Authoritarians are bad regardless of ideology. I concur. However it is disingenuous to present Mao or Stalin as illustrative examples of "far left" political thought - they were Authoritarians first and foremost; communism was nothing more than a useful tool for them to use.

Any serious discussion of left- right politics in a modern (rather than historical) context would not select Maoism or Stalinism as the model for leftist ideology.

Unless you're saying the comparison is correct?

So let me ask you directly. Do YOU think DUers are extremists?

And they are on different topics.

Guns.
Vaccinations.

Olive Garden.

One of the hallmarks of a real extremist is a total unwillingness to change his or her mind, even after contrary evidence is shown.
