Why are Republicans so angry and vengeful ??

Or is it just my imagination?

Sometimes I think it all originates on talk radio...?

Everything seems to be "anti-Obama" all of the time. Sometimes they will talk about other Democrats but it is always in an angry or distrustful tone. And they are passionate with their hate.

But, I think it has spread to both sides. The anger and resentment is always out front. As a country, it seems we are no longer able to discuss solutions to problems? It has become a war of personal attacks. The lines are drawn according to the Party affiliation - not necessarily differences of opinion.

It is difficult to be part of such a debate. America is better than that.

To conduct themselves is to repeat after Rush or Sean. There is a lot of the old Dixiecrats in the GOP and their life mission is to hate.

reasonable debate point. There is a powerful movement going on in this country. Those who wish to control others both socially and economically are doing everything in their power to weaken those they wish to control. I do not advocate violence but I do believe it is time for a non violent movement such as we saw with the Civil Rights, Women's rights, and Labor Movements.

More than a few look back fondly to the Ozzie and Harriet era.

The Ozzie and Harriet Era was an almost mythical time when you could leave your door unlocked.

When you could leave your car keys in the ignition.

When you could ride your bikes all over creation as long as you were home by supper.

When children listened to their elders.

When family was the bedrock of society.

In reality what these old white conservatives harken back for is:

When the only blacks they saw were tending gardens or shining shoes.

When school didn't have a single black or Latino student.

When "uppity" blacks were put in their "proper place".

When women prided themselves on how well they kept house and made their hubby happy instead of their academic and career achievements.

When the missus had dinner on the table at 5:00 sharp and listened to every word her husband said.

When smacking around your wife was considered acceptable.

When taking a belt to your child until he couldn't walk wouldn't land you in jail.

When Jews and other religious minorities kept their faith out of view.

When it as okay to kick the shit out of "queers" and "heathen atheists"

Conservative's act like they want the America of Leave It To Beaver when in reality they pine away for Archie Bunker's vision of America.

Both religion and Conservative ideology is dying a slow death and that's never pleasant to be around.

Sarah Palin was the canary in the coalmine.

At one time I would agree with that statement, however ever since the 2000 coup that installed Bush* the Lessor I don't believe that statement has any truth left in it.

That works with anyone obviously, not just Republicans. People don't get what they want, or what they think they should have, and they get pissed. Doing so rightly or wrongly depends on your own particular perspective.

Was a sentence like "Oh, yeah, well, I mean, I can see where Bush was going with this, it's not so bad" ever said around here?

As a country, it seems we are no longer able to discuss solutions to problems?

Tough to know if that was really ever the case, but we don't really solve problems. We just change them. Push them off into the future. Ignore them. That kind of thing.

I agree talk radio has added fuel to the partisan fire. With the likes of limbaugh, hannity etc, hate has grown.

And I also agree, it has spread to both sides. There was genuine hatred for GWB. This seems to have spread to those further to the right than mainstream GOP - cruz, palin, etc. I do think a lot of this has to do with elitism from the left - we have a lot who feel we have a corner on truth and reality and are unwilling to compromise. An example is a few here who feel a personal mission to "educate" those with religious views - it is their calling in life. Forget that neither side has proof of convictions.

I am concerned for our country - I pessimistically do not see a way to break this chain.

It's non-verabal message is, "I DON'T LIKE THAT, CUT THAT OUT!"

The seeming irony of it is that when people do crap that they know is offensive to other people, the offenders also get anxious and feel threatened...and they act angry as if they are the ones being offended!

And YES that sort of anger is present on both sides.

It's not in particularly short supply on DU as DUers pretty frequently deploy it against other DUers, especially during primary seasons.
