Democratic Senators and Reps lead DC rally against the TPP

t was another one of those rallies on Capitol Hill where lawmakers line up to take shots at the Obama administration. But this time the lawmakers were all Democrats.

A quartet of senators and a dozen members of the House took the stage in a park across from the Capitol midday Wednesday to join hundreds of steelworkers, union faithful and environmentalists in denouncing President Obama's bid for fast-track approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

"I've never seen a trade agreement that is more secretive than this one," Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, told the crowd. "What are they hiding? What they're hiding is a huge shift from democratically elected governments to corporations all over the world, and that's why we're fighting."

Connecticut Rep. Rosa DeLauro protested that "we are headed for the madhouse with this agreement." Poking the air with her index finger, she added, "I did not come to Congress to give up my constitutional authority to any administration, Democrat or Republican."

And I just read a piece saying as few as 15 dems may vote for the TPA (fast track) in the House. At least some repubs are against it. It's not out of the realm of possibility that it could be defeated

We shall see if Rush and FOX can rally the base behind this when the polls show they don't like it.

them hypocrites, and like lemmings they will all jump on board. As you say, they are not deep thinkers.

In fact I believe the indoctrination is so deep they think liberals ARE foreigners. I know I have been told many times to go live somewhere else where I belong, by right wingers. Lol!

7. NAFTA was not allowed the fast track, which is why it kicked from Bush to Clinton

as a general rule, Congress does not like to extend fast track status, so I think it is well within the possible that fast track could be defeated.

and there's this:

<snip>

On Wednesday night, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a potential Democratic presidential candidate who has been one of the loudest voices in Congress in opposition to the deal, rallied members of the progressive organization, Democracy For America, against the bill during a conference call. “The only way a member pays the price [for supporting TPP] is if the poeple are education and organized,” he said, adding later that “What we have got to do is rally the American people and education them and put pressure on vulnerable members.

I have watched that one and several more in the past few days.

What a fine day it would be if we could get this man elected.

I have been following this disastrous trade deal very closely.
