Florida man lands mini-copter at U.S. Capitol as a protest

2:11 p.m. EDT April 15, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Multiple streets near the U.S. Capitol were shut down Wednesday afternoon after a small remote control helicopter landed on a grassy area near the Capitol building.

A Florida man, Doug Hughes of Ruskin (near Tampa), says he is behind the stunt as a way to protest the need for campaign finance reform. He says in a letter to Tampa area tv stations that he was going to deliver 535 letters, one to each member of Congress.

In his letter, he says "As a voter, I'm a member of the only political body with authority over Congress. I'm demanding reform and declaring a voter's rebellion in a manner consistent with Jefferson's description of rights in the Declaration of Independence."

He shared his story with the Tampa Bay Times.

gawd bless'im.. Hope it does some good.

He took some real chances when he did that, he could have been blown out of the sky with all of his 535 letters to the Congress.

I think I heard him say that his son committed suicide a couple of years ago, but that this adventure was not connected in any way.

Maybe a march on the Supreme Court and the Congress with a couple million people might do some good. Wish I felt good enough to go on one.
